Can anyone recommend a family friendly beach in North Carolina?

Important things:

1. Good food
2. Few things to do like fishing/putt putt/shopping/stuff for a 6 year old to do
3. Good food
4. Clean places to stay

I've heard good things about Myrtle Beach but not sure if that was North or South. Then a bit of discussion about it someone mentioned nicer places, less touristy.
I'm sure someone here have good suggestions. I'm interested too.

5. Good food

 

We went to Atlantic beach back in October for our daughters 6th birthday. Don’t remember seeing any putt putt or really things for young kids to do but our two had fun. We did go to harkers island and cape lookout where the lighthouse is and where the wild horses are and had fun walking around though. If I had it to do again I would rent a house instead of staying in a hotel. Probably same cost or cheaper and more room.

 

Myrtle beach is pretty crowded. Cherry grove is above that and isn’t as crowded. My aunt lives in north myrtle.

 

Last time we stayed at Myrtle, it was south Myrtle, and we said never again. That was 16 years ago, so unless it’s changed, no thanks!

It was nasty. We used to go there every year until I was around 20.

 

Not sure why I can’t get pm’s. I need to figure that out.

 

South myrtle is awful.

 

We’ve heard North is better than South, family friendly vs party crowd

 

I have not been down that way for years and things change just one year till the next .

As a 6 year old I would have been building defensive positions against a amphibious assault not all 6 year olds are the same.

 

What about Outer Banks or Nags Head? Ever been?

Well, I was just informed that we have to go outside before the snow melts. It’s currently 28F. Out we go!

 

Outer banks a few years ago for a wedding. There wasn’t a whole lot for kids. It’s more of a fishing place it seems. It was beautiful though and we went to kitty hawk to the Wright brothers site.

 

North is better but the crowd is what hurts it.

 

Be like 5 more months for me. Suppose I can take my time.

 

Tourist stuff:
A long time ago I spent some quarters on the Boardwalk in Wildwood NJ playing this game. It had a clutch and a 4 speed transmission, you could "blow" the engine too.
