You're probably right. I'm ahead of all that on the west. Our resident hummingbird and owls are already starting to nest. Breeding season officially starts Jan 15 (bell curve, few species starting now). Migrants havent started to return here yet. I was more speaking to the concept overall, but unlikley on east coast in Jan.

They probably didn't migrate and overwintered. Migration is a lot of energy and if its been warm enough with food available ....

$40K and change. They'll probably come down when they see I'm putting half that as down payment

That year round range extending so far North might be a little optimistic.
If Bluebirds are here in normal Winters, they sure make themselves scarce.

    Which reminds me...

Gritto Tells You The Truth About Robins

So when I was (much) younger, I thought all Robins went South for the Winter.
Everyone I knew thought so too.
When Spring came, people would say: "The Robins are back, it must be Spring for real now".

Well, one January I went late season Grouse hunting (I was tougher back then).
It was a rare warm day and I went far into the woods, about as far from a road as it's possible to do here.
I find myself in a south facing, deep hollow filled with Red Cedars, with an ice free limestone stream.
The ground was unfrozen and it was very quiet.
On the slopes were dense tangles of wild Multiflora Rose bushes.
I'm thinking, hmmm...rose hips, that's a good sign (grouse eat them in mid to late Winter).

I approach the Roses and suddenly large flocks of birds take flight in waves.
I about shit my pants.
    Robins...hundreds of 'em.

    Nobody believed me. :annoyed:

Then again, in very cold Winters, you might see a Gray Jay if you go deep into the woods.
Their normal range is far North of here in Canada.
If I recall correctly, Canucks call them "Goonies".
