Lomax has been great. Had it for 6 months and only get a bit of water in around the sides of the tailgate which has nothing to do with the cover. Highly recommended!

Congratulations in the truck. You seem like you are in a similar place I was in about 1.5 year ago.
I had got my first new vehicle, the Tacoma SR5. Had a paid for Jeep Liberty CRD Limited to sell. The market for used cars just started to go up then so it was definitely a win.

My advice is take your time and decide what you want to do to your truck. For me coming from an SUV the tonneau cover was top priority. I looked at the same soft ones you mentioned and decided no for the same reasons. I looked at a few hard ones but ended up with the Lomax trifold from @GotExhaust
I couldn't be happier with it.
    IMG_20200817_182743.jpg

I did tires later putting on 265/75R16
No lift yet but seat covers and a ton of little things including all kicker speakers and adding more power to the factory stereo.
Just be careful hanging out here. You can find a lot of things to lighten up your wallet with.

+1 For a heavy duty tri fold cover. I have Bakflip.
I love music in my truck now with replaced door speakers, tweeters, and a small amp.
I mounted a chalkbag next to the transmission tunnel for large water bottles. Gets tons of use.

And if your going to offroad it just get some recovery gear and a compressor and wheel as much as you can stock. Im getting to the point where my ability as a driver is at the limit of my trucks stock form. Also if you dont have factory LED headlights, theres a way to drop in H9 bulbs which are so much better than the stock h11's.

Really can't complain with the factory tonneau cover if you can find one, mine seals well, plus you can stack some serious weight on top of it without worrying of damage.

How much money you got for the Pontiac? Diamondback makes top notch aluminum heavy dusty theft free tonneau cover. Get that.

I would make a list of the tonneau covers you like, then wait for a good deal.
I see you have a long bed, but thought I would post this for all the short bed owners out there.
BakFlip G2 (60.5 bed). On sale for $721 at Amazon (Cyber Monday 2021 & still on sale today). It's normally around $829.

I would just drive it stock for a while and get a baseline so if a mod goes bad you know what the stock feel/look was like. You may also decide to go a different direction with a mod you think you want right now.

Sick truck congrats! Ive got the truxedo lo pro. Def easy for a thief, but I love the cover as I often have to haul stuff in the back requiring a quick roll up. Does the trick for me. Tons of options to spend money on these things, but choose wisely on what you NEED first. It'll increase your enjoyment. Good luck!

A lot of people mention soft covers being so easy to break into because you can cut it with a knife, yet the truck has windows.............you can easily break windows, a determined thief is going to get into whatever they want. At least if they cut my $200 soft cover I'm not going to cry about it. I just want to be able to take things places and not have to be concerned they will blow out on the highway or get rained on, if you aren't planning on keeping things always in there I wouldn't worry about the security of them, but that's just me.

@Slim_Shady Congrats on the new 7170!

I don't have personal experience with a BakFlip but the one on my dad's Tundra managed to get water in the panels and they never seem to dry out. As a result, they are heavy SOBs now. That said, it is ~7? years old now. My only personal experience was with the factory cover. I like it. Pretty secure, could handle a top load without worry and isn't too heavy. Only complaint about it is the front section doesn't flip up thus unable to utilize the whole bed for longer & taller loads.

Seconded for the Lomax cover. It's been great for me so far as well. Not noticing much water or anything in the bed after rain either, or at least not enough to remove any of the random stuff I keep in the back regularly (empty boxes for BJ Wholesale shopping, trailer hitch, beer growler in the cargo net - you know, the usual stuff)

Rather than post a new thread, I was looking for good AT tires for my SR5 because I don't care for these stock car tires. Not looking to lift or change rims or anything, just a beefier AT tire that'll be better in the snow or lighter offroading on the closed road near my place.

Well I actually have changed the tires on my SR5 to an AT tire for mostly the same reasons, looks, snow and possibly light off road. Back in spring I got a set of Cooper Discoverer AT tires at Walmart in 265/75R16. Now these are not the most recent tread design as the AT3 that full price tire places sell but I been happy with them. I was also considering Hercules Terra Trac AT3 since I had a few sets of those on the jeep in the 11 years I had it and was happy with them too but the deal they had on the coopers I couldn't pass up. I'm not really sure I care about having the best top brand tires on so I can boast on here if they look and work good and wear well I'm happy. There is a thread on these tires too if you search.
    Here's some pictures. IMG_20210610_092834.jpg IMG_20210610_092845.jpg IMG_20210528_175202.jpg IMG_20210610_092817.jpg

I went with the soft roll up Truxedo just because I need it to roll up out of the way when I put my dirt bike in the bed. Main reason for getting one for me is just to have a dry place to put stuff when we do shopping trips to the city.

Also I would recc first mods as a bed mat, the led lights in the bed, and led interior lights (makes such a difference!) Enjoy your new truck!
