What’s up guys. Been a long time since I’ve been on here. Last Tacoma I had was a 2009. Well I’m back in a 2021 Tacoma. Definitely a different truck than what I remember. I’ve put about 1000 miles on it so far and I’ve had a few questions.

    - first is this 3.5 motor seems a lot louder than the older 4.0. Almost seems like I hear a slight knock but I’m almost sure it’s not knock since it doesn’t get louder with rpm. Maybe it’s the direct injection?

    - second is when coming to a stop I get a slight vibration. Around 15mph to 0mph. Almost like the engine is braking for me but it’s an automatic so it seems odd. I’ve read a couple of people had warped drums brakes but it doesnt feel like there is any pulsating in the brake pedal.

Thought I’d run it past y’all since the dealers always say things are running normal when it comes to warranty. But who knows maybe it is normal?

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
I've noticed with mine that it'll downshift occasionally when braking - I haven't yet figured under what conditions it'll do so.

Idk...never had the 4.0...i've had other 4 cy.'s and a 3.0 v6 which was very quiet. My last 4.7 v8 was more like this 3.5 tacoma. The 3.5 just has more mechanical noises going on. I can't say its louder.

I've noticed the same on hills when i tap the brakes it will downshift. Otherwise the truck drives normal.

Almost 100% this is it, or the cleaning cycle. Normal unfortunately. Most new engines are noisy. Check out a new Honda V6 if you want to hear it as well.

If you're talking about the ticking noise, I think they all do that

My 2018 has always done this and I've read many posts in this forum that say the same. I took it to the dealer a while back and they said they couldn't find a problem. It never got any worse, and there's never been any wheel or pedal shaking, so I left it alone. It's pretty rare for me to even notice it anymore.

The last part of the video you hear it idle down a bit and it almost sounds like knock. I’m not sure if everyone else’s is doing that as well

I know this is an old thread but for what it's worth my new to me 19 makes the same noise. Freaks me out Everytime but everyone keeps telling me it's normal as well.

Tacoma engines have always been on the noisy side.
