Tacoma vs Gladiator. I know Tacoma will last much longer over the very very long term.

But, is it unreasonable to expect 15 - 20 years from a Gladiator?

It's not unreasonable, but possibly unrealistic.
Toyotas have their problems as well, though.

Jeep seems to be a yearly "10 Least Reliable" lister. I have one and love it but would never choose one as a daily, even a new one.

Coworkers wife works for a Mopar dealer and hear horror stories about how many motor, transmissions and rear axles they have on backorder. At one point it was like 10 warranty motors, transmissions in the low teens and 4 rear axles.

The 3.6L should be reasonably solid, the motor has been in production for over decade, and is much of the dated workhorse that carries the Chrysler brand. The 8spd auto is one of the best on the market, and the same unit used in Toyota's Supra as well as many other premium cars. The slightly concerning thing though is that those vehicles use a ZF German built unit whereas FCA has elected to manufacture their own in the USA under contract. I'd not be as worried about drivetrain components as they are reasonably well vetted (assuming 3.6 gas), vs the electronics. That said, the quality isn't Toyota and no where close, so don't expect it to be.

I've boosted my Gladiator 3.6 to 440+ HP on 37s. It is far more of a rocketship than my way over boosted 2nd Gen on 32s. Poorly documented build thread here:

u can expect longevity on any vehicle tbh, as long as you maintain it and are used to it. A lot of people think owning a toyota “oh it will run forever” bunch of bs, you gotta log the maintenance with anything. So if you take care of it, it will last. But engines like the 3rz and 5vz are known to last. Buy whatever makes you happy.

I had a Jeep Liberty. Worst piece of junk I've ever owned. It once stalled while in rush hour traffic at 65MPH. No warning, just died. I never trusted it after that, and bought the Tacoma soon after.

i wouldn't buy anything new right now. They're cobbled together with whatever parts they can find in a cardboard box. Let the supply issues work out before you buy any new vehicle.

My friends new Rubicon needed engine work within a year of owning and the problems kept coming. He doesn't have it anymore. I think he got a Subaru so we'll see if it turns out to be an improvement.

I have buddies that own new jeeps. Personally I would only own a new one if your local dealer’s service dept is trustworthy. Get on fb and join some local jeep groups and ask if anyone has used your local dealer for service and how it went.
