Do you do any kind of anti-critter prevention practices when doing external closed sections like this? I've always wondered if there are steps to take to keep the wildlife from making a home of sections like that.

I didn't realize it gets a full seal, I figured it was open for air to prevent moisture trap.

There is an intake vent up against the building that brings air into the rafter system above the insulation of the main part of the shop and it exhausts through a continuous ridge vent . The 2 in 12 overhang rafters are vented into the 2x12 rafter bays so any latent moisture in the overhang framing can still be drawn up the same convection path

I just figured any kind of vent would become egress for rodents/squirrels/birds etc. Maybe I'm just overly paranoid and that doesn't happen often enough to make a difference.

Its a rigid plastic perforated vent that will be protected by a flat trim about 1/2" down from it , we use them all the time , never had an issue

Yesterday was literally first day i've taken off in 4 months

Was determined to do something at the shop today after visiting my pops for Father's Day , so I cut the false timber ends that will go on either end of the shop at the ridge and at the exterior walls from some short 4x12 timber ends I had

The beams have the same profile as the timber ends on the post and beam extended roof overhang shown below

    upload_2022-6-19_19-52-17.jpg

Needed 6 total , cut and belt sanded them with 50 grit this afternoon , still need to coat them with Sunfast before I put them up , but hopefully this is the start of the final push to get the shop to the point I can get my occupancy / final inspection

I’ve been wondering how your shop has been progressing, since this “just happened” to mine. It looked like this inside minus the plywood I put on the lower 4’ soon after we bought the place 10.5 years ago.

Yup, it took ten years to get started, ten weeks to finish.

I just moved some stuff back in yesterday, still have some setting up to do over the next while.

Keep at it man, having your space to do what you like, and set up how you want is a wonderful thing.

I spent most of the day in my shop today on a motorcycle project, having good lighting and the shop being so clean I hardly dared to make a mess just made it so much better than before.

Honestly, with your skills and attention to detail, you should have a YouTube channel. Teach people like me how to do what you do. You’ll have plenty of money.

I’m seriously impressed with what you’ve done here.
