Governor will declare a state of emergency. If we get more than 2 inches , the National Guard will have to dig people out.

    Houston, we have a problem.

Remember the trouble I had welding these so we sent them out? After facing them off I tested them with 120psi of air. They looked great. Boss took them to get chrome plated, picked them up yesterday and they are cracked on one side.

It doesn’t make sense to me. Chrome platers don’t heat them so they shouldn’t have cracked.

:annoyed::frusty: I’ve seen that happen when dipped in caustic prior to plating. Dunno why, just know it does happen.

From what I remember of the occasional trips to the plating shop in the Dockyard, the solutions are typically heated, something in the ~100 area (not sure if it's for all, but I know some where). I remember the discussion of these, but not the details; did you anneal them?

I have a kid that decided to stop eating meat. Coupled with my wife not being able to eat gluten, they made it difficult to find restaurants that would work for both of them. But also have something me and the other kid wanted to eat!

The guy that did it last time must have been an idiot.

I was almost certainly the guy that did it last time.

Either that or we were supposed to have flying cars by now and shouldn't need roads.

The reason I'm going to go with, because I WILL be asked, is last time we were asked for roadways by various widths with paved and non-paved (gravel) broken out separately. This one just says "paving" so I'm not including the gravel roads which look to be in the neighborhood of 160k.

    We did not anneal them.

We made 5 of these before these, I welded them with our small TIG. Had to reweld a couple but they worked, tested with 120psi, etc, had them chromed and they were fine.

We get to these 5, I welded 2 of them the same and they cracked before cooling off. We talked to a certified welder, he told me to change filler rod. Didn't work so we sent them to get welded at a different shop, they have certified welders and also a lot larger TIG machine. They also preheated them. They looked great, lathe guy machined them, I tested them with air. No leaks, no cracks, sent them to chrome and 3 of them are cracked on one side.

The material is 1045 hot rolled, same as the first batch. Boss man and I are stumped, he is taking the 3 to the people who welded them so they can see them. I don't blame anybody for it, it's just something we can't get to stop and not sure why. We also have more to make

These fuckers are about to be :infantry:practice!

I can run a multi million dollar process, but I can't adjust a bifold door for fuck all!

What are they for and do you ever see them after the chrome plating? Just curious for an after photo
