I want to modify my shift lever to accept a 10mm shift knob, but I'm having trouble finding either a part number or part for sale so that I can have a machine shop turn it down to fit the knob I want to use without taking my truck out of action to do it.

Does anyone in the hive-mind know where I can either find a part number or a used shift-lever?

Dumb question, but why not ream out the knob to M12? Seems to be an easier approach with less room for disaster. I think (not 100% certain and am being lazy) that the M12 thread minor diameter is less than the M10 OD?

If you're dead set on turning down the lever, post up in the Core shifter thread. There are likely removed levers there to be had.

Hmm, I'll have to take a look at that. Good enough reason to buy a set of taps and drill bits to go with them I suppose. In the end probably cheaper than having the shift lever turned down, too.

    I would think so.

Most tap sets come with the appropriate bits. Although, the ones at Lowes and HD don't have M12.

Nailed it! Just a quick ream out with a 10.8mm bit, tapped it, added a grommet for the shift boot, and presto!

Hmm, there were lots of options for 5 speeds back in the day so I'm sure you could find something similar. Unfortunately, OEM shift knobs can be kind of expensive so buying them for a project like this can be a bit like buying shoes online that you've never tried on.

This is re-inspiring my quest to find a better looking/feeling knob. Nice work.

If you have a machine shop handy, they should be able to make an adaptor that fits between the knob and the stick, and it would only add about 3/4” to the height - you would never notice it.
