2022 trd off road brake booster issue?

    So I just picked up a brand new 2022 trd off road DCSB yesterday and I noticed the brakes are extremely stiff which leads me to believe there is a booster problem. I know for normal boosters a test you can do is press down on the brake pedal with the vehicle off and then turn the vehicle on with your foot still on the pedal. With a normal vacuum booster, once the vehicle is turned on the brakes should depress another inch or so. I have no movement whatsoever with the brake pedal on my 2022 trd off road when turning the truck on. I know it's not a traditional vacuum booster, but I'd like to know if this is normal for the electric booster. To me it feels like the brakes need to be pushed awful hard to make the truck stop. Just want to make sure it's not a wear in thing and that I don't bring it back to the dealer unnecessarily. Thanks in advance to any helpful info!

    Yes. The electric boosters feel and act different. Yours sounds normal and what I felt the couple times that I have driven an OR / Pro.

    So I just got my 22 OR the other day and that is something I noticed as well. I had a 17 Tacoma SR5 and the brakes felt completely normal but the brakes on the OR are quite different and have even scared my wife a few times when she drove it. Like you said OP, it seems like I have to press the pedal extremely hard and far down to get the truck to stop. I have heard people saying different things about the OR's and I just wasnt sure if that's how OR's are or this is an actual issue.

    I’ve owned a 2016 SR5 and a 2020 OR and I didn’t notice anything different about the brake pedal nor do I find it stiff. What are you comparing it to? There is definitely differences in brake feel from automobile to automobile, but brand new ones tend to be very similar to each other.

    I'm starting to think that's just the nature of the electronic booster. My truck stops no problem, just have to exert a lot more force than I am used to. It's definitely going to take some getting used to. Although I do feel like they are starting to wear in now with just under 300 miles on my truck

    Yes, it is normal. The brakes on the OR are the quickest brakes to stiffen of any vehicle I've ever driven. Personally, I like it.

    This is my first Tacoma so I can't compare it to another Tacoma, but I have driven quite a few different vehicles in my lifetime and none of them had brakes that felt anything like this. The OR has an electronic brake booster and I have no experience with electronic boosters, just vacuum boosters. And with vacuum boosted brakes, as soon as the engine is running, the brakes are much easier to depress due to the vacuum assistance. With the breaks on my OR, they are just as stiff with the engine running as they are with the engine off. Just wasn't sure if that was normal or not. I definitely hear the little hydraulic pump going when I press on the pedal hard enough, and the truck stops, there just is next to nothing for pedal travel and it seems to take a lot of force on the pedal to get the truck to stop. More than I am used to anyway with any other vehicle I have driven. Just going to take some getting used to I guess
