Any 5speed 4banger 3rd gens running 4.88 gears? I am interested in what tire sizes you are running and overall experience on/offroad.

Running 285/75/16 with nitro 4.88s. Over all I’m happy and it’s great 95% of the time. Lots of control on descents without needing to ride the brakes. For general off roaring they’re perfect. The 5% it’s not great for is rock crawling stuff that I’m starting to get into. They still do pretty well but you will need to do some clutch work occasionally, marlin box will fix that. On the road they’re great as well. I do occasionally wonder if 5.29s would have been better and I usually lean towards no. One they would be too short for street driving, you’ll find with 4.88s you can slip into 5th ~35mph, you’ll be cruising at 3k rpm @70mph so I can’t imagine what 5.29s would be like. Personally I need road drive ability. Two, like I said for most trails they’re perfect and in 4Lo I’ll find often myself in 2nd or 3rd. Only in very technical rock crawling stuff do I find them not short enough and I don’t think 5.29s would have been short enough anyways with the stock t-case for these situations while they’d come with street driveability issues.
