After the battle with the sidewalks, it was a welcomed booster. :)

The parking lots aren't off to a roaring start, either. Obviously I haven't touched this parking lot since I've been here as I would have never drawn it this way.

    WHY.jpg

What looks like a bunch of black boxes is actually thousands of line segments (some of which AutoCAD doesn't even show a length for, just 0'-0"), for absolutely no reason whatsoever. The entire lot was like that, including the rounded corners.

It's way easier to just draw that entire section with just one line.

Are you having to go out and physically measure everything to confirm your CAD drawings?

No need. My drawings are perfect. :p

More info than you probably want but when I first started here, campus wasn't drawn to scale and it wasn't just a simple "it needs to be scaled up or down x percent" off, it needed to be completely redrawn from scratch. Fortunately I had some reference points because I had to measure up some parking lots and streets that we were redoing so I got a bunch of aerial images from a city of Fargo website, stitched them together, scaled it and worked on it on and off for a few months.

    Capture.jpg

This is one small part of campus. The CAD plan doesn't match the background image because they just won't stop making changes. We've since built two new buildings (one just had its ribbon cutting on Monday), torn two down, expanded a parking lot, added a bus loop and (not shown) completely gutted a dorm. Another building (left side, grey roof with the red down the middle) will be coming down in about a month.

A year or so after I finished, the CAD file was sent to a Civil Engineer and he asked how I'd redrawn it because they only had to make a few minor corrections to it. Considering the horribly convoluted way I went about it, I took that as a compliment. :D

tl;dr - for what we're doing with this project, my numbers are just fine. Besides, the underground stuff can't exactly be easily measured anyway.

Talking about this People begged me to come work at Bethlehem Steel at the time it just was not me.

I am sure glad I did not make that move.
