I won them on GB for $20 plus shipping. Snakeskin they call them. There on my 1971 Ruger Single Six. 22 LR/ 22 mag. I have an additional cylinder for the 22 mag.

I will always keep the original grips, but sometimes it’s fun to buy new shoes for the old girls.

I’m actually thinking about stripping them and redoing the finish. I want a finish that’s no so bright and new looking. Like this.

I like those grips, and I like what you want to do to them. How are you going about it to get the dull finish? You could take some 0 steel wool and maybe get it without a lot of work, and it won't remove any of the wood.

I would probably do as you suggested first with the steel wool and if that didn’t work, strip them completely and work in some pure tung oil.

Groan beat me to it. I use 000/0000 to dull the finish on my recurve bows for hunting.

Not a fan- hey, you asked. The refinish looks a little better but still not a fan.
