Why are these truck’s bedsides ridiculously hard to find replacements for? Local dealers have’t quoted anything under $1000 for the skin. And car-part website doesn’t seem to update any listings, I’ve called every potential listing and even though they’re sold they’ve been there for two weeks now. Anybody know best place to get replacements? Google searches turns up dust bunnies. Here’s the damage CA47574A-B3C1-4B12-885E-3A48011D03D8.jpg

Or the new RSI smartcap flatbed system, that’s been on my mind for a minute

I think you mean paint-less, but yeah I had a couple guys who do that look at it but because there’s paint damage and cracking they won’t guarantee their work.

Totally talking out of my ass cause it's not like I do it for a living but it looks like something a PDR shop could bang out then you just need it cut in and painted if you still care about the cosmetics (and rust). What's the point of reskinning the bedside or buying an entirely new bedside? I am willing to bet that, just like literally every supply chain right now, there is low inventory and mostly consumed by Toyota's production, hence the cost seeming so high.

They definitely stick out more than the 2nd gen and IMO unless you got some significant travel added that call for them, wider panels don’t really look good

I did consider that but all in all I’m into this truck about 60k and I’d hate to have any fiberglass filler on the body, not to mention most body shops can’t replicate the OEM texture on the lower panel. If I can’t find a reasonable replacement I might just part out the rear end and go flatbed with a canopy.

I might have two solutions for you. One would certainly be a flatbed and canopy system, as we got some exciting things happening over the next month..

The other, we have a customer coming in for a flatbed and canopy and will be selling their factory box.

Shoot me a message, would be happy to help you out!

Supply issues causing parts delays / scarcity has been a real problem. My truck has been sitting at the dealership for 3 months waiting for carpet padding that has to be replaced due to the brake light leak.

I asked if they can use aftermarket that meets form, function, fitment and the answer is "no". It has to be an OEM part that's now on national backorder.

In the meantime I'm putting thousands of miles on the 2021 4runner loaner they gave me while I wait. Today's update was "no ETA on the part".

I think I’m definitely going the flatbed route, more specifically the RSI system that’s hitting the market this year hopefully. I’m tired of everyone in my town seeing my truck and trying to clone it (funny cause they all used to say these weren’t real trucks and you’d never see anyone under 23 with a Tacoma). The amount of money I got from insurance was pretty absurd and if I spent it all on fixing this panel (which is apparently how much it is going to cost right now, all that money) it’d be a huge waste. Now I have the opportunity and down payment to go down a road very very few can follow and truly make the truck unique.

I'm glad the insurance payout was substantial!

If you don't mind me asking, why the RSI specifically? Price? Powder coat? You're not concerned about weight?

That’s almost as ridiculous as the dealer markup on the Tundra I was looking at. 15k!!! For an SR5?!?! And the idiots that pay it fuck it up for the rest of us. Dealerships really shouldn’t exist, Tesla got that one right.
I would expect them to be slow but damn 3 months? Just take the padding out of a new truck on the lot and install the replacement when it comes.

It’s the best looking system by far, the shape of the canopy and contour of the lines look very nice. A lot of others also bob the tail too much, like PCOR, and these trucks already have such a short bed. And to my knowledge they offer the longest warranty, 3 years if I’m not mistaken. I did the math and the weight of the RSI system would most likely be less than what my bed/drawers/snug top/roof rack are at. What system do you offer?

Trust me I've made that suggestion.

The service manager is also not happy because my truck keeps a bay tied up so he's hamstrung on the amount of work he can do everyday.

The only thing keeping me from pulling my hair out is the 4runner SR5 Premium is pretty damn nice although not a fan of the color, it's MGM. Every day longer I'm starting to consider possibly pushing a deal for a T4R, my truck has been paid off and resale now is crazy. I'm ready for this to be over and move on with vehicle that I own.

I won't argue that, they certainly have attractive styling.

Agreed on the bob-tail design. We offer both, a compact 5ft deck and a longer 6ft deck. The 6ft is our most popular, it suits the short box trucks so well too.

While we don't offer as long of a warranty, but we're right here in North America. Designed and manufactured right here in Canada. No latches freezing as ours is designed to handle -40 and works very well in those extremely cold temperatures. Can be powder coated any color you desire.

We have a full aluminum construction design. So never have to worry about rust. It also allows us to build the strongest mid-size flatbed on the market while still being light weight. You would overload the truck before you could ever overload the deck. I would be impressed if RSI being stainless steel would be less than your current set-up when just the box caps are nearly 200lbs.

Ours is also truly modular. You can add any of the accessories at any point. Tool boxes are easily bolted on, even the rear drawer can be added later, fenders can be upgraded to fit up to 40" tires.

Installation is super easy. TRUE plug and play wiring to factory connections. All mounting hardware, brackets, fuel filler relocation kit, are included.

Here's some photo's of one of our customers down in Texas that did the swap in 4.5hrs, in front of his house.

I will say your setup has a much more utilitarian design, for sure hits the mark on industrial. Do you offer it in black? The only thing I’m not a huge fan of is that there seems to be more body gaps, like between the front of the rear wheel wells and the cab and over the wells. As far as aluminum that is extremely appealing, as much as people like to bash on it the no rust + weight saving without strength compromise factors are huge selling points, kinda bummed RSI didn’t offer that as an option at least. What is the lead time on a system like this from point of order to on a doorstep?

Yes It does have a more utilitarian design, but we can install a filler panel in front of the fender, between the cab to give a more streamlined look and finish if preferred. The gap over the fender is so there's enough space to hook standard ratchet straps.

We can certainly offer it in black, there's additional cost, but that's because we have to outsource powder coating currently.

At the current rate we're booked into May, so I would say, with powder coat, a flatbed and canopy package would be at your door by mid/late June 2022.

Let me know where I can go to get a quote, can’t hurt just to have options but I have a feeling just the fact that it’s aluminum is going to double what I was quoted out for the RSI at about 13-14k.
