I hate Push Start

Is it possible to ditch the push start and go back to a regular old stick the key in the ignition truck.

I didn't think I would like it either, but my totally beautiful sales lady told me I would love it and I have to say that on one level, she was totally right. I never take out my key fob, and I got used to just walking up to the truck, grabbing the handle and getting in, all without having to fiddle with a key. Now, having said that, I worry a little about the fact that thieves now have the ability to scan and capture the waves coming from the key fob and they can then steal your truck even though they don't have the key fob. This was something I thought was a good way to protect the truck as I thought the truck could only be started with the key fob close by. So now, although I do like just being able to walk up and get in the truck, I admit that it is a concern and wonder about being able to go back to a regular key too.

 

Yes, sell or trade your truck in for an SR model or an MT model.

There were plenty of car thefts before push-to-start came along, and they didn't need to have your keys either.

It's an inexpensive bit of extra protection, but the bottom line is if a thief wants your car bad enough he's going to get it whether it has a key or pushbutton start.

 

To answer your question, no, you can't. Either get used to it or sell the truck for one that has a key.

To the point made by the OP. I didn't like it either at the start. My wife and I each got new cars a couple years ago that "featured" the push to start. And neither of us appreciated the "feature" enough to off-set what we both considered the downside. Of course it was not a deal breaker in the purchase of a new vehicle. But, for the first couple months I lost my keys more often than all my combined 50 prior years of vehicle ownership. I believe it was because I didn't have the fob in my hand at any point after getting out of the vehicle. I was frequently letting them in whatever coat I was wearing at the time. Next time out to drive, I'd have to remind myself which jacket/coat/pull-over I might have been wearing when I last drove my truck. FWIW, it's been two years now, and I haven't done this in many months. I've retrained myself to make sure I pull the keys out of my pocket when I walk in the house and put them on the window sill where I always find them before leaving again. At this point, I have retrained myself, and am comfortable with the keyless entry and push to start. I can say the "feature" was never a deal breaker, but would never seal a deal either. In my mind it was a bit of electronics that was not necessary, nor in my case needed. As a second FWIW, in my experience the batteries in the Fob do not last as long as they did in my previous vehicles. Buy those CRxxxx in four packs, you'll need them.

 

A regular key is easier to steal than a key fob; the tech is cheaper and widely available. Please stop thinking that a key fob is less secure. And even if a key fob was impervious to remote attacks, someone will just drive up with a tow truck and take your shit anyway.

 

I don't like push to start, for no other reason than I don't like it. Maybe PTS will go away as manufacturers cut features on new vehicles.

Push to start also eliminates the ignition lock since the vehicle no longer as an ignition.

 

Since this thread is devolving into just sharing opinions on push to start, I love it. I don’t understand how it’s any easier to lose your keys with it versus a regular key.

Either the key is in my pocket or hung up on the key rack at home.

We replaced our deadbolts with the electronic keypad ones so now when I leave the house I don’t need to dig my keys out of my pocket for any reason, it’s great.

 

my previous vehicle had PTS and i transitioned back to a key. There are advantages but its not something that i couldnt live without. i doubt its impossible to switch a car back but it might not be worth the hassle

 

I didn't like it at first because my keys were bulky to keep in my pocket. I pared them down quite a bit and now I don't mind it at all.

I added an S Biner so I could easily remove my work keys and I had a locksmith key some padlocks to my house door key to eliminate some keys for those.

 

Well, all this tech in our cars makes me recall these wise words from the future.

 

Keypad deadbolt FTW bro so much better. I go out for a run and don't even have to think about keys.

 

Yea they just can't leave shit alone sometimes. If it works, it works. Nope gotta change it and throw everyone off. I agree, electronic start is kind of ghey.

What a bizarre thing to not like.

 

I have a family member that uses one of these and they've shown me that it works well.

Having to store a key fob inside of a closed pocket every vehicle use seems like more of a PITA than simply inserting/removing a key from the ignition.
