I know for a fact I have a limited slip differential but I feel like its almost getting weaker.
I read some wear that there is a true mechanical limited slip locking and there was a friction plate style LSD? is this true or am i just crazy because i really hope my rear diff isn't wearing out.

You have an lsd with friction plate style. Later year tacos have open diffs with electronically brake controlled simulated lsd's.

i believe the cut off for the true LSD is 2008, meaning 2009 and newer uses the abs to simulate a lsd

There is no auto/locking diff in the Tacoma. You have a mechanical LSD.
I’d change the fluid with CONVENTIONAL gear oil and add the LSD friction modifier.

Or, use Synthetic and risk having diff chatter.
