I did some reading on that and i think you are OK. When the pin is fully inserted it's set up as what is known as 'double shear', meaning it has to break in two places to fail. I'm not sure if the math is this easy, but what I gathered from forums says this doubles the shear strength, so your pin is good for 8k lbs.

If your pin is a standard grade 5, 5/8" pin, your pin is rated more towards 18k.

Also some good reading i found, I recommend going through all pages:

im not worried about the cost, i actually have two of these locking pins. if i shear them i dont really care, as long as no metal goes flying and no one gets hurt. nor do i want to shear the first one first time i pull with it, then shear the second and still be stuck

Let's keep this straight to the hitch and pins for now. Straps are a whole 'nother can of worms to discuss :D

    Ah, I did more looking

When you say 'box', what box? Whichever box it is, you want to put all those items back in and return them to the store. You want a box that says, "for Class IV up to 10,000 pounds"

A grade 5, 5/8" pin is rated for 23,010 lbs. with a double shear of 46,020 lbs.

i looked into the hitch pin thing a little more. it turns out its a 1/2" pin (for class I and II) with a 5/8" sleeve to adapt it to work with class III and up. Thats why its rated to 4,000 lbs i guess and with that being said i wouldnt really trust it. i think all i will use it for is to keep the shackle locked up in the receiver so no one steals it and when i am going wheeling or going to pull with it i will swap it out with a real 5/8" pin.

Take a look at Supreme Suspension hitch skid plate with tow shackle…(Amazon prime-$159.00)
You will need a class 111 receiver ….
A receiver hitch may come in handed…you can add all kinds of things on them..?
And if you do bottom out the rear? Better to drag the hitch then the bumpers…

My hitch save me many times…dragging on the hitch rather then the bumpers from my past 4x4s …my 2019 Tacoma TRD off road has a Long bed…just install the Supreme Suspension Hitch skid plate with tow shackle from Amazon… hopefully it save me again…
    Aloha

ARB makes a bolt on tow/recovery point. I have seen it mounted on the front of a taco, never the rear but I am sure you could find a good spot on the rear frame.

would you consider a pintle hitch an enclosed loop? or are we talking only solid D rings/loops etc here?

Next to get a completely all metal bumber…. I kinda like the new Ironman tube bumber…
Sad Tacoma has too much plastic on there bumpers…

Does Toyota know what a bumper is for? …not looks is it? Remember those plastic fill water bumpers…?
Even some companies came out with shock absorbers on the bumpers…lol

I believe a bumper was suppose to protect your truck from other people and ? that video of that guy whose Tacoma bumper shatter into pieces…as it hit the ground…going up a hill…does NOT offer much confidence?
    Aloha

even the Supreme Suspension rear skid plate is limited only to center part of the bumper..
