I’m a bit biased, but I agree. I just double checked my door jam. It says manufactured 10/17. I remember when I bought mine, they asked me if I wanted a ‘17 or one of the new ‘18’s that were about to be delivered. I requested a ‘17 and they found me what I wanted at another dealer.

Not much to report on 2017 Sport with 55K. Replaced battery a few months back as noticed slow start on a cool morning. Have appointment next week to replace power steering pump making noise and has a very minor leak. Dealer checked on leak at each 5K oil change until it got bad enough to submit under my extended warranty. Also broke the clicker on gas cap, so replaced that a few weeks ago.

Picked up Tacoma from dealership. Talked to mechanic who confirmed a leaking pump. He said he carefully inspected area and does not see anything coming from timing cover area. He told me he’s seen a few leaking pumps, especially with trucks like mine with larger tires. My extended warranty paid for the $535 repair. Will I break even on my warranty? We shall see!

Definetly a worthy upgrade, I'm at just over 80k on my 17 now.

Just follow the manufactures oil change recommendations, and drive the truck as it was meant to be, and you'll be fine. Don't try to overthink what the engineers have done, they know a little more than most of us.

Hey all, just created my account today, I own a 2023 TRD Off-Road, I'm not trolling here but I was talking to a reputable shop here in SoCal that does a lot of GX460s and Tacomas, and they are saying they have 3rd gen customers that have had engine issues (cylinder 1) not sure how many specifically, but of course, I'm highly concerned as I want to do upgrades to the truck.
They are saying the quality has gone downhill when production was moved to Mexico. From the posts here it seems like the platform is solid, which is one of the main reasons I bought the "Toyota" vs another truck. Have you all heard of engine issues with the 3rd gen or is it a certain year next gen?

Picked up mine October 2019. Only about 23k miles so far but no real issues. All I have done is oil changes and tire rotations. Every so often the driver side window has a random screech but never enough to look into. I think I still hate the stock clutch but that is another story..

Engine issues exist... over every engine in every vehicle ever made. Will it happen to the engine in yours... maybe... who cares!!! Drive it and enjoy it! If it happens then deal with it then. Being worried about it now does nothing!

I have 87,000 plus kilometers on my truck. It has been flawless. I have a lift, tires, stereo, lights and other mods. I will continue with modifications I want and won't give the engine a second thought outside regular maintenance. Life's too damn short to worry about stuff out of your control!!!

    Nothing major yet.
Pretty sure that’s due to oil starvation on steep angled terrain with high RPM. Not something that would happen unless you put yourself in that position.
