Hi. I am new to the site, and didn't find the answer I had been looking for so I am gonna post this.

I tried starting my truck after work and got nothing. Dash lights came on no noise no click nothing, but I had a friend Jump Start me and it started right up. I got home and parked it and turned it off, and it makes no noise again when trying to start and my dash lights come on and I can turn my headlights on, and I can jumpstart it, but when I dont jump start and use key it just makes no noise, and the doors sound like they are trying to work, but the doors wont lock. Please Help.

Man you guys are fast on answering. I thank you so much but I do have a couple of quick questions.

If it is the battery it went from starting right up to not making a noise in 3 hours. I went to lunch and it started fine. I came out to leave 4 hours later and it made no sound not even a click. I trust what yall are saying, but just like to ask?

    Thank You guys so much.

    Yup, I’d suspect battery.

In my experience, modern cars don’t like even partly dead batteries. Whereas older cars would just turn over slowly indicating weak battery a new car will often do exactly as you described. Maybe dash lights, maybe not. Then nothing, not even a click of the starter solenoid.

Check your battery voltage if it’s not right where it should be then get it replaced.

You can always check the battery to see how old i is. It should be marked. Then throw it away

Awesome. Thank You so much. I appreciate the info. I am going to try getting a new one tomorrow then. I already tried the Starter Relay, so I am gonna take that back and get a battery. Thanks again.

A shorted cell will immediately drop your voltage to 10V or less which won't engage your starter. It's possible you had an internal defect or growth that finally blew itself during cranking or blew an internal weld that had started to corrode. If it's not a good connection you may still get good voltage but only enough current to power small lights. Then as soon as you try to pull heavy current through the bad weld, it melts further or just heats up.

It does sound like a battery, but could you jump it again and take it to a auto place that has a battery checker? Then you are 100% (or at least a lot MORE confident) that it is nothing else. Could be more than just a battery...nothing worse than chasing electrical demons.

Also, make sure your battery cables are tight. If one was loose the jumper cables might have helped make the connection better.

The above are spot on. Start with the lowest cost and work up.

Also check and make sure your connections to the battery terminal are tight.
But a 100$ Walmart battery is a great choice. Good warranty and there is probably a Walmart within 60 mins of you anywhere.

Did you take the connection off and clean the areas where the actual terminal meets the cable? Corrosion can limit your current majorly
