Got the second set of resistors in and everything seems to be working fine as of now. I wish there was a 12pin relay to make this all easier and to keep the power consumption down but until then it is what it is.

Also I checked the other night. When in reverse if you turn on your turn signal the back up light for that side turns off. It does not switch back and forth between the two. The other side still shows the back up light though. If your cautions are on then the back up lights will not come on. Probably an important thing to keep in mind in very specific but potentially dangerous conditions.

Has anyone installed the stage 1 total tails without the load resistors and been fine?

I’m installing mine in a few days (I have a 2021 SR5) and wondering if I should just order the load resistors now. I was hoping I didn’t need them but it seems like most people, on this thread at least, needed them to prevent the hyper-flashing.

Yeah no problem with mine so long as I'm not in reverse with the turn signal on. If I do that it fast blinks. However, it goes back to normal when I'm in a forward gear.

Ok cool, thanks. I’m not too worried about the reverse thing…not sure I’ve ever used the turn signal in reverse lol

Awesome thanks! Hopefully I don’t need to order the load resistors, fingers crossed.

    Oh look, another mod....

I did. I've had my stage 1 (without the resistor) on my truck for 10 months now. No issues at all.

I found that if I put the four way flashers on and put it into reverse, it also caused hyperflash. I think it's reasonable for everyone who orders this kit to order the resisters at the same time. I know that MESO says that it MIGHT cause hyperflash under some conditions, but I think in reality it's reasonable to assume that that is the norm.

I can confirm the issue with hyper flash while in reverse with turn signal on. Other than that, it works perfectly. Like others said, I rarely use turn signal while in reverse. It is a non-issue for me.

Ok cool, hopefully I have the same luck.

Yeah, after reading through a bunch of threads it seems like more people need them than don’t.

Just to close the loop on this, I just installed the total tail kit without the load resistors and fortunately I do not have any hyperflashing.

    Thanks for the update!
I thought about building resistors INTO the bulbs. But since everyone's light configuration is different..you can always ADD a resistor but you can't take any away. If there is to much(technically less resistance), it will cause the truck to do opposite of hyperflash. It will flash once then stop completely stop until the truck restarts. Having them plug and play gives the customer the ability to fine tune them to their system.

This makes sense to me, since the same bulb does both the turn signal and backup light. Wonder if getting signals for both lights are mutually exclusive for that bulb?

I'm thinking of going the total tail route and just ordering the resistors at the same time since odds are I will need them. For those of you who installed them, did you disconnect the negative battery terminal before you started?

I didn't disconnect the battery and fortunately did not run into any issues. I must have also been lucky, I did not need the additional resistors. I've been running these for about a year now and no issues whatsoever (reverse + turn signal happens, but that's user error in my opinion). It's one of my favorite mods.

One of my favorite mods I’ve done.

For the reverse/signal bulb I took the rubber gasket from the stock light socket and Swapped it on the new bulb. The meso foam gasket was a little loose.

After thinking about it, I bought the resistors from Meso. It didn't bother me. But, I didn't want my family to freak out in case they borrow my truck. It has no more hyper flash. Everything works as it should. And no, i didn't disconnect the battery.

Hyperflash isn't a big issue, the lights still function. It's just more of a mild annoyance. Glad they worked for you!

Do the resistors plug in or do you have to splice in?
