Has Anybody DIY'ed a Roof Bar or Bars???

    I'd like to have a single roof cross bar in front of my camper overhang in order to mount traction boards or a shovel. Looks like the Yakima or Thule options would run many hundreds, and it seems like it could be done much cheaper if DIY'ed. Anyone do so?

    That probably isn’t something you want to skimp on. There are several pictures in threads about roof racks that show the brand name individual rails coming loose and damaging the truck significantly. I can imagine that the load being concentrated on a single bar wouldn’t help matters either. You might want to consider fabbing something that would mount to the camper directly if that’s possible.
