OEM oil filters vs aftermarket?

    I've got the facilities and what I believe is the common sense acumen to do my own oil changes. Wanted to see what the general consensus on a couple of questions from you long time Taco people:

    Is genuine Toyota oil filters preferable and advantageous to lets say a filter available at NAPA or one of the other parts supply stores?

    Is full synthetic oil preferable to a synthetic blend or even a conventional?

    I know thoughts and beliefs concerning change intervals vary from one owner to another but I've settled on 7500 mile oil change guidelines. Is that interval about right?

    I myself choose to use toyota filters, have I ever had an issue with napa filters? No. Full synthetic is definitely the best option to protect your engine. As far as the interval toyota I believe says 10,000. The most common is 5,000 so you are right about in the middle. I prefer to do my own soon rather than later becasue it is relatively cheap insurance

    I did my first oil change at 500 miles then 3500 and then the dealership did the 10k and 20k for u der the freeoil changes. I also got oil changes and state inspections for life. I used OEM.

    Your truck takes 0w20, that's all full synthetic. Filters, stick with OEM.

    Stock, 4WD, Access Cab, White,
    OP, check your Owner's Manual for specifics on oil viscosity, recommended API grade and change interval. Follow that and you won't have any issues.

    Oil filter wise, some of the best are Toyota, WIX, Napa Gold, Bosch, ACDelco. Use a quality filter at every oil change. Any of those are quality filters.

    Synthetic, Blend or Dino are all good as long as they meet the API grade and Viscosity.

    Many opinions, many internet based stories, partial rational........and a big heavy dose of BS. Of course, there will be those who will claim what they use is the best and anything else will result in dire results.

    I use the cheapest 0w-20 synthetic and OEM filters...
    Lately it's been a 6qt box of Havoline from walmart.com for $20.
    OEMpartsource.com sells the OEM filters for $3.50. I order some when I need wipers, etc. Doesn't get much cheaper than that...

    OEM & Fram Ultra filters are available at your local Walmart at around the same price. I've used both & cut them open. They're good stuff. Mobil 1, Castrol 0w-20 is what I use.

    Toyota filters can be found for cheap online, or on the shelf at Walmart.


    0W-20 only comes in synthetic.


    10,000mi. No question and no worries.

    I only use Chuck Norris aftermarket brand filters, they’re rated at 100,000 mile servicing intervals. They can be used as makeshift Molotov cocktails once used up so there’s no waste or need to recycle.
