Do tell... Special tool to get it off & oil everywhere, but where it belongs. I'm basing this on a Corolla, mind you.

I prefer an oil pan, but that's me. LOL! :) I'll go back to 2nd gen, where I belong. BTW, I prefer a dipstick when checking tran fluid.

Why are you even answering this thread about 3rd Gen oil filters if you don’t know what oil filters they take??

Just because you mentioned the Havoline, I've used it my my daughter's Jeep no problems but used it in my Impala that's nearing 180k miles and it seem to burn off or consume more of it so I switched back to Castrol.
Mobil 1 in my 3rd gen with oem filters.
Not implying anything wrong with Havoline, still use it in the Jeep but so far the Impala seems to burn less Castrol:notsure:

I’ve tried K&N, oem and Mobil 1. But the one I like the most was wix. Seemed to just be built better.

0w20 is all synthetic oil. All brands are good. I been using Rotella gas truck 0w20 because I was able to get it on clearance for a really good price because they didn't want to carry the quart size anymore. I got enough to do a few oil changes. When that is used up I'll probably go with Castrol GTX magnatech, SuperTech or whatever I can get a decent deal on..
I always like the OEM brand filter and get that if Walmart has them in stock. Otherwise NaPA gold or wix, maybe Fram but not their basic filter.

Interesting. I've never noticed my oil level change with any brand, but I typically only drive a vehicle to 60kmi.
I really like the Havoline 6qt box (bag in a box) because it's the right amount for the 3.5 tacoma. I've never added the extra few ounces it calls for. Dipstick always has read full.

It's actually available at my local Walmart and it's peaked my interest. I like the convince of less package to dispose of and the right amount.

Easy now. The current 2RG engine has only been using the cartridge filter for 17 years. Some people might not know. o_O

Yeah, I don't know what the deal was with the Havoline in my car, but it should work fine for your Tacoma if it's not burning off or something. I like those boxed oils too and even buy the Mobil 1 in the 12 quart box.
I'm not a expert on oil but recall high mileage blends formulated differently to prevent burning off. That's maybe what I'll try using in my Impala if it gets worse.

I've used Mobil 1 High Mileage Full Synthetic in the past & I think it's pretty good. Designed for vehicles with > 75K miles. Some engines will burn a little oil when they get up to around 125K & it's considered normal. The Mobil 1 won't prevent that nor does it claim to. Whether it minimizes the amount burned I don't know. I used it because Mobil 1 was spec'd by the vehicle manufacturer. Worked for me.

You may be thinking of another brand which does prevent burning, in which case kindly ignore the above.

Have you ever made a pie? I have not, but I suspect the oil change is easier than pie. Unless we're talking about eating the pie, then it's probably easy as [eating] pie.

    I need pie.

Yep people have no clue, Fram oil filters are the number one selling filter in the world they didn't get that way by selling junk. The last 3 Toyota trucks I owned all had in excess of 300K on them the latest 150K. Wouldn't be surprised if some of the others like NAPA are rebranded Fram's
