I wish/hope that it is something far more simple than what they are suggesting. Here is the exact description and they really don’t specify whether it’s the intake or exhaust valve.

Found abnormal compression results. Performed leak down test. Found 80% leak down on cylinder #1. Air is coming from tail pipe. Most likely due to bad valve seats. Need to replace passenger side cylinder head and all exhaust valves.

The thing that gets me is the truck is running fine and shows no signs that something is wrong. I averaged 19 mpg on my last tank of gas. Crazy!!

So Carmax towed my truck to Toyota, Toyota won’t repair the vehicle as they don’t participate with carmax’s warranty, but they did some diag. Apparently all the cylinders are down on compression (which I don’t believe) and they’re stating the engine needs replacement. The truck was towed to another participating shop to be diagnosed and repaired

Any word on your repair? They finally started my repair after weeks of back and forth. They’re replacing the head

I picked my truck up Wednesday. Here is the list of work they did. But yesterday I noticed a squealing from under the hood at anything above idle. So I'm not sure if it's a belt or a pulley. If it ain't one thing, it's another.

At least yours is covered by warranty. I just dropped $5K out of pocket on a 4 year old truck with less than 100K miles. I pray I don't have another repair for a long time.

Jesus!! Did you need an alternator too?

the $1500 warranty seemed silly at the time of purchase but now I don’t regret it at all.

I mean that's what it looks like on the last line. To be honest, I didn't ask too much once they had to pull the motor. I assume that's what they would normally do.

I’d question it, unless you authorized it looks like the replaced it without talking to you about it.

Taking my truck back tomorrow for the chirping/squealing. He said they'll get it taken care of for no charge, "since I spent so much money already." LOL

Got the call late yesterday, they found serious scoring in cylinder 1 and the engine needs to be replaced. Hopefully warranty works quickly

Damn man, I hope it gets taken care of quickly. At least you'll have a brand new motor?? Took my truck in today and picked it back up. Said there was some coolant on the belt, probably from the engine work but they cleaned and lubricated it. All good now. I pray I have no issues for another 4 years. I told the service advisor on the way out I hope I don't ever see him again.

How long did this process take, I am certain I have the same issue. I have cleared the code 3 times and had it come back after 500-800 miles again. The truck is driving the same as always, but I know now this could be because it was cleared before I bought it. I just need to know how long I’ll be without my truck. Should I go to Toyota of Greenville or Easley?

How long did this take? I have a 2019 with 34k and it’s been coming on after clearing a few times for 2000 miles. I just want to know what I’m looking at, did they give a loaner?

I went to Toyota of Greenville. The first time it happened it took about 2 weeks. I had a loaner. Then about 6,000 miles later I got the same code again, took it back and they covered it under the warranty from the first out of pocket cost. They claimed that the shop that worked on the head did a bad mill job. That time it was 6 weeks in a loaner and when I went to pickup my alignment was way out of whack. I’m at 97K now and it’s a bummer that I really don’t trust the truck. At least you’re under warranty. I would suggest getting it taken care of since you’re still covered

I absolutely will take it in, especially if they can do a loaner. I have no transport without. I stopped working at the dealerships just the beginning of this year and NO-one had a loaner. I know that’s scary to not be able to trust it, but it seems so specific, always valve issue on cylinder 1, never hear about others, I would bet it was a manufacturing defect. Hyundai had a similar problem, that you won’t get out of their new engines or short blocks, but it took literally 8 million engines before they found a potential fix. I hate the idea of having my engine apart and my truck down that long. Do you feel they did a good job, I do believe a machine shop can make that kind of error, about the same as the technician could when putting it back together. What I’m asking is, did they treat you well? Did they give you a loaner right away or wait til they had torn it all down to verify, because this is a known issue? Thank you for your response!

I got a loner the same day I took it in each time.

***TOYOTA WILL DECLINE FOR AFTERMARKET AIR INTAKES****
Had P11EC, truck been running rough since I bought it, though it never seemed that bad, light popped after 1k miles, cleared and came back every 500-100mi.
I took mine in, and got it approved for a cylinder head, they gave me a loaner the same day (21 highlander limited, very nice ) told me 4-5 days, at first They didn’t know if it would get approved because they had one that got declined because of an intake.
