I finally pulled the trigger and put a deposit down on a 2022 Tacoma SR5 Access Cab V6 2wd last week. The dealer said it takes about 2 months these days, but I'm in no hurry. It's a replacement for my '87 Nissan King Cab that my Dad bought when it was 2 years old. He passed away about 10 years ago and had quit driving it before then. It's a great truck, but it's time to upgrade. I also have a Lotus Elise and a 2011 BMW 335i w/manual. I have a few mods in mind (lights, Homelink mirror, etc.), but nothing too wild.

So far everyone I've corresponded with have replied quickly and had good suggestions. With all the enthusiasm and mods being done, TacomaWorld reminds me of LotusTalk forum I'm also on. Lots of enthusiasts on an active forum.

Many thanks for the welcome! Below is my 1987 Nissan Hardbody that I'm replacing with the new Tacoma. It's always lived in Georgia, so no rust and always parked in a covered spot:

One of my friends from up north is buying my Nissan D21 tomorrow. I'm picking up my new 2022 Tacoma Access Cab SR5 V6 2wd on Saturday. I wound up having to go out of State to find one. It was the only one in this spec in the southeast. My local dealer actually found it for me and tore up my deposit check made out to his dealership. I've been going there for years for service on my daughter's Toyotas, so they'll get that business. 2022 Toyota Tacoma SR5 Access Cab V6.jpg

Already have a few mods ready for installation, including a Bob's Mirrors harness to adapt a Gentex mirror I already have and adapters plus Phillips H9 bulbs (German made) for my low beams.

Are you thinking about getting Diode Dynamics fog lights?

I haven't thought that far ahead or done any research on fog lights. Are Diode Dynamics considered the best?

Oh yeah they are definitely a great brand. I personally have the SS3 Pros in selective yellow and to me they were worth every single penny. They have much more light output than stock fog lights.

I'll check it out. What's the best source for this brand?

While I understand how the new truck will be comparatively plush and safer in some ways than the old, I'd have had a hard time making that swap.

The Nissan is nice and clean, but also simple and svelte.

'course then again you have a Lotus and I don't. :D

    Welcome.

@Clearwater Bill - Yeah, I had a hard time letting the Nissan go, as it's been in the family for nearly all of its 35 years. I had some recent fuel injection issues that damaged the engine, so my friend it taking on the project. I would love it if Toyota/others made a true successor to it, but that's not going to happen. Like you said, if I want simple and svelte it's time to drive the Lotus!

I thought about removing the engine and sending it out for new rings, etc., but I've done full nut-and-bolt restorations before and am no longer interested in taking this on. Before I had the Elise (which I bought with 2k miles on it in 2007), I did a complete restoration of a 1969 Lotus Elan. I sent the body out for paint/bodywork, had the engine rebuilt, and other tasks but did quite a bit of work myself. Below are a few photos:

I enjoyed the Elan for several years, but sold it to buy the Elise for about the same $$$$$ with no regrets. Sure, the Elan was fun, but the performance envelope and safety of the Elise is in another league.

The Tacoma is kind of a compromise, but as I get older I want to simplify my life. The Nissan was starting to have parts that were no longer available and little things popped up on a regular basis. Time to move on.

A few photos showing before and during restoration. Had to get a new chassis shipped in from the UK since the old one was bent.

It showed up on the cover of Hemmings Motor News when I sold it. It went to San Jose, California, but I had calls from Amsterdam, Tokyo, and other far-flung places - all wanting to buy it. Crazy.
