Hey y’all, I have some time to spare do you Covid and I am finally working on my switch panel and relay / fuse box with my free time.

I’m new to this whole wiring thing, but I thought I’d give it a shot.

I drew up a very unprofessional and highly unorganized diagram of how I am planning on doing this wiring. Could someone with some knowledge/experience help guide me in the right direction?1CB65278-BB62-4F27-91C0-820E6A54212D.jpg

    Inspiration for fuse/relay box:

I also am trying my hand at designing and creating my own switch panel to sit near the cup holders of my second gen. image.jpgimage.jpg Any tips and/or tricks are greatly appreciated!

Just remember to run a main negative off of your fuse box, but everything looks fine. I don't know if that's where you got your inspiration, but iggycorp used to make switch panels that pressed in place like the one you made up. If you haven't, give it a search. It looks like you should be able to fit way more than 3 switches and an outlet in there.

I’ve seen iggys, but I’d like to have it done by this weekend and I’m not sure what the lead times are on it.

And I think I could probably get 3 more in there, I’m just more concerned with engine bay space and all those extra relays would make me rethink my game plan because of the extra space.

Oh and I totally forgot to draw in the main negative. It’s real late here lol

He doesn't make them anymore, I just brought it up because it looked similar. If you want more relays, look into the hella micro relay holder. They hold 7 micro relays in a compact water tight package. It's small enough I was able to fit 2 of those, a 12 circuit blue sea fuse block, and a circuit breaker all on the same panel.

    Mine for example:

If you were to use a 6 fuse block, one relay panel, and your circuit breaker you could keep it even more compact.

Did you run your lights directly from the relay? Instead of using a buffer bus bar?

Yeah, I wanted to use a bus bar, but I didn't really have any room left, so I just used quick connects off of each relay

100 Amps is 1200 Watts (@Nominal 12Vdc). Depends on your total load and future goals for the sub panel. Your pic shows Three loads, but your pic has 5 relays. If there are no starting currents than it’s simply the sum of the loads. If it’s three sets of LEDs and they draw 1200 watts I’ll be able to see you coming for miles!

    That’s the goal!

but in all seriousness it’s just tractor supply ditch lights, tractor supply 30” light bar, and a set of ss3 pods from diode dynamics. Nothing too crazy!

Oh and for the breaker is it best to go beefy with a larger amp load or try to get closer to the smaller amp load I plan on running through them?

I think I am gonna put two round toggle switches in between the panel and the voltmeter now that I think about it. Never hurts to have extra!

Give yourself a little bit of leeway for your startup current, but the breaker should be slightly more than what your combined loads are. The fuses should catch the individual circuits, the breaker is for worst case scenario. For example I think my panel was rated for 100A so I went with a 120 Breaker.
