We are seeing the effects of forcing a degree on everyone now. People work their entire life to pay back student loan debt. Learning a trade will make as much or more than a degree.

Exactly. Certain careers definitely require degrees, but most people do not need one. That, and there are far too many people getting into debt for absolutely useless degrees.

Thankfully, I managed to make it through without loans, so hooray...

Trade schools have caught on to this trend though, and are starting to cost as much as some smaller colleges

    It's just good business....

I can retire at 52 with my work pension. If I wait until 54 I'll hit 30 years and get a bit extra.

My original intent was to move somewhat frequently. Nearly ten years later, I'm still at the same company. Granted, my job did change about 3.5 years ago, so I guess that counts?

Wrong. I work for the gov and the Union lost our pension in the last negotiation. Now all I get is a lump sum when I 'retire'. I guess I have 401k to fall on but with inflation that'll be worth nothing.

Same, this will be the longest I've stayed with a company at 5 years in May and as previously stated, I don't wanna be here anymore :rofl:

Mixed shop, no union negotiations. Civil Service Commission in place, basically has a grandfather clause garuntee, whatever is in place when you're hired, that's what you get even if they change things later.

So for me, I have a better pension setup than the new guys coming in :D

Also, what kind of Union loses a pension when negotiating..... That's like, the opposite of what a Union is supposed to do lol
