Confused by the Tacoma model name

Hello all.
I have a 2008 Tacoma, 4WD, double cab, long bed, wheel has 6 lugs (I didn't know about it, almost bought the wrong rotor!). I see the label SR5 on its tailgate. I need to replace the brake pad and rotor, and other components, but many web site I went to there is no option for SR5, only Base, Pre-runner, X-runner. Some tutorial video mention 2nd, 3rd generation instead of model names...My question is thus: what category is my truck, above?

it is a base with the SR5 accessory package. pre-runner is toyota speak for 2wd with 6 lugs, and x runner is a different animal altogether. the generations are 1995-2004= 1st gen, 2005-2015=2nd gen, and 2016-current =3rd gen.

 

If I recall correctly, the second gen Tacos (2004-2015) were all a "base" model with trim packages such as Sport, Offroad, Baja Edition, etc. Prerunner is a 2wd and X runner is a lowered, sportier prerunner.

The trim packages were also usually denoted with decals on the rear half of the bedsides.

 

Most parts suppliers have limited options when it comes to “select your vehicle” drop-downs. For the SR5, you can always select prerunner and have parts comparability. The base and x-runner will have different parts in some areas- notably they both have 5 lug rotors/wheels.

 

Order (or at least look up correct part numbers) from sites that you use the VIN or GRN model code (located on sticker in door jamb) to confirm compatibility... I have good luck with toyotapartsdeal.com

Hm, I am confused again! Just read some member comment, that it is a "BASE"; and that Pre-runner is 2WD!....

 

Base is either 2wd or 4wd.

You have a 4wd. So it's a base with SR5 trim, 2008 means it's a 2nd gen.

In the 1st and 2nd gen eras there were also 5 lug trucks, all 2wd, very different in a lot of parts. They are also all base, maybe with trim package or maybe not.
