Can you expand a bit on this for those of us that don't have the Magnuson Supercharger. Is the software you reference VFTuner? What are the options/actions for "reading out the tune file"?

Yes, using VFTuner and the flash tool within.

The 3GT has an ECU type that the software can read out the stock file from, without requiring the ECU be removed for bench-read/flash, to develop support for it for tuners from there. Not all ecu's allow this (ex. 4runner, GX, Tundra).

Hitting Read ECM will read out the stock ECU file for the truck. VFTuner file encryption protocol prevents this, so that people can't steal other users' tunes. I can't read out a KD tuned truck and take their tune, they can't read out a CVC tuned truck for that tune, CVC can't read out a YotaWerx tuned truck for the tune flashed to the truck.

In addition, EROM patched tune files (such as what Magnuson uses for their tune, and what YotaWerx uses) change the ECU ID from 89663-xxxxx to V9663-. That would be another method of confirmation, and can be ascertained simply by using Prepare ECM. I'd forgotten about that.

But the previous method I mentioned is more thorough. Takes a long time though.

My kit should be delivered tomorrow and I have everything else to do the install. I have a few questions:

I have new sparkplugs, but only have 17000 miles on the truck. I see Magnuson says anything over 5000 should be changed in the instructions. Should I just pull one to inspect and change if needed or just change them?

I have a winch bumper and see the coolant pump will have to be moved over to clear the winch. Is there enough hose to do that or will a piece need to be spliced in? If yes, what size hose is it and/or what parts are recommended?

I installed my SC at 32k without changing the plugs. I just pulled one and checked it and decided not to spend money for no reason. I plan to check them again at 60k but I’ll nearly guarantee you I’ll keep them until 100k+ unless I up the boost.

Just took the rig into RSG Offroad here in Denver for the SC install. I asked them about the spark plugs, I have 26,500 miles on the odometer. They said they would replace them.

I would also like to know, awaiting the delivery of the front bumper next month and with the winch on its looking like it may not fit exactly. Looking at getting a radiator style hose with a sleeve on it as a potential replacement to that lengthy hose from the pump to the reservoir. I’m pretty certain I’ll have to cross that bridge right at that moment of install And then have to refill the reservoir with coolant as well.
    Any tips are much appreciated.

I have just under 15k on my truck and I'm not planning to touch my spark plugs at install.

I'm sure a shop will replace them, and charge you for it, if you ask.

Here's how I routed mine. Moved pump over about 4" with rivnut. Added a short silicone (3/4" ID) 90 degree elbow and coupling. I'm sure there's other ways to do it.

Another question.... I got my kit today and would like to start the installation tomorrow but since the truck is my daily I can't have it down more then 1 day this weekend. Can I do some of the install? Like get the LTR and pump in and wired (and unplug after)? I'd tape up the ports so they don't get crud in them. Also maybe the drive pulley, idler pulley plate assembly, oil cooler plate? Maybe something else?

I'd most likely finish next weekend.

Not much you can do that will save you a substantial amount of time. You could mount the cooler, waterpump, hoses and wiring for the pump. That is about all I would do. The idler pulley plate can be done on the bench but won't go onto the truck till it is fully apart. The crank pulley may not fit the existing belt so you may be stuck doing that day of. I did the crank pulley while the oil cooler was loose to have some additional room.

Read the direction and lay out all the tools and stage the parts beforehand

start on a friday after work and work till late that night and continue working early in the morning saturday untl you're finished.

this is something i will also have to do since my truck is my daily also (no kit purchased yet but ive thought about minimizing the truck down time)

That's an Idea if Magnuson sends me a tune tomorrow. If not then I can't use the truck. I did send the info to Magnuson today. Are they good about just sending the VF file? I already have VF tuner so don't need to wait for them to register me.

Just an update on the Yotawerx tune.

@mZiggy @tonered @a2lowvw and I have been working very hard to make sure the finished product exceeds expectations. The private message chat is now 150+ pages long. Lol… We have gone through more revisions and flashes than I can count. Now that the recent snow storm in the PNW is over and temps are back to normal with dry roads, the clutchmasters FX250 is broken in, testing is going very well for the manual transmission. The Magnuson tune is flashed for comparison purposes after each YW revision and I can confidently tell you guys… You’re in for a treat.

There were some recent breakthroughs that not only level the ACIS dip in torque but also deliver 1 psi more boost up in the 5-6.5k RPM’s than the Magnuson 90mm stock pulley… sustained. I won’t get into details but we hit 9 psi at 6500 RPM on the STOCK pulley with the YW tune and are presently testing the absolute limits of the stock fuel system. Dyno is scheduled for next week 1/27 to confirm what I already know… It rips.

Stay tuned gentlemen. We are very close!
