What causes oil seal leak.

Anyhow after driving from Ny to Colorado in September, I blew a rear axle seal. I ended up replacing seal, shroud, bearing. and brakes. Now it looks like its leaking again after my trip from Utah. I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts before I go and do all the work again. Also do you think I will need to press in a new bearing?

 

Make sure the axle vent isn't plugged up.

 

Check.

 

I’ll go ahead and say, you probably shouldn’t do what I did.


Definitely check that diff breather. (Vent)
Mine did the same thing. TWICE now.
First time was in 2016. Replaced seal only. And brake cleaner washed the shoes.

Last time was last October. Didn’t do anything other than free up the vent. Brake cleaner. Ordered new breather vent.

Never replaced the rear bearing yet.

And yes, for those of you saying my bearing is compromised. It probably was/is. Driven on it for 73k since the first leak

 

If it's not loose, leaking, or making noise it aint broke

 

I normally breakdown in areas just as the Banjo music starts.

I have not had this issue but filing this thought away for the future. What does the vent look like and where is it located? Do you have a picture?
