Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Everytime my GF and I see a rod vault on a vehicle we yell "Look, a guide!"

I own a douche tube. Don't leave it on my truck all the time (as I'm in San Diego) but do put in on when I'm heading to Montana, the Owens, Colorado, or other areas and will be flyfishing a lot. It's nice to have a couple of rods already rigged and ready to go, especially if you're jumping between different sections of the river. Also makes sure you don't break them in the bed.

A 4 piece, 8 foot rod: break it down in half still rigged up....leave the line somewhat loose. Never broke a rod in the back of a truck!!! It only takes a few seconds to put the rod back together (already rigged) and you are ready to go. They also sell rod/reel combo cases to hold a set up like I just described.

Not knocking your choices one bit!

Instead, would rather buy a Winston rod or Abel reel with the money spent on these set ups.

"douche tube".... Love it! I got a pro deal on it, so much less than another rod or reel. Besides, I needed a project.

I live in the Seattle area, and can be on a multitude of rivers in 30 to 90 minutes... So it is handy.

I won't run it full time either, but I'm too lazy to take it off after all the work getting it on..at least for now.

My next project is how to convert it into a part time potato gun

Make sure you show pics of the completed 'spud gun' and ideally a video of it in action!!!

i could see it being useful and practical if you fish a lot and hop from spot to spot. I bought the Sumo rod racks for that reason. Only time a rod tube would be better is for protection from dust, bugs and high winds :anonymous:

I envy you. I miss living in Norcal and all the time I was able to spend on a river. I get to less but also get to flyfish the salt (both inshore and offshore).

Douche tubes are what my buddies who are guides in Montana called them (and they own them as well).....

I have one of these as well. My issue is that it's a 75 minute drive on an interstate over to the Yakima River (over mt. pass)... so need something rated for 80 mph.

I have yet to try salt fishing... despite so much water around me.

Got in maybe 30 days last year... half local, half via a trip to OR and MT. My ratio of fishing trips vs. fish caught is pretty pathetic though.

I'm way better buying shit than I am catching fish.

Open your rear window. Slide the rod through the window “reel-first” and place the reel on your dashboard. Rest the rods on the middle seat cushion with the tips out of the window. You will never need a douche tube or a hood latch. Near infinite speed rating.

Indeed. They are more for spot hopping compared to the vault cases. I think your case makes sense
