Can I use these tanks?

I’m getting an arb twin compressor. I found these old truck tanks in a junk yard. I have no idea what size they are but are they too much for the arb? They are pretty big.

Old tanks, outside is rusty, don't know how long water sat in them and how rusty the inside is..

I wouldn’t trust them, ever see what happens when they blow up.

 

One of those things do you have shop air at home ?

Easy to build something to test them .

I can`t see how much water would get inside unless they were in a flood .

I myself would use them after looking them over .

 

Condensation. Have you never drained an air tank or compressor?

 

When using a compressor and tank, there is actually quite a bit of water that gets put into the tank. It occurs in all compressor/tank setups as a product of the process. This is why tanks have drains and need to be drained fairly regularly.

 

He must not have gone to the handy link I posted with science. I mean OP is in TX, but still parts of Texas are humid. I know PA gets pretty humid too.

I have drained a few tanks over the years .

I have replaced many brake valves on trailers

I have made many air tanks

So you would never trust a air tank that sat for a year or more .

Never buy a used Air Compressor ?

If your worried have the tank Hydro tested ?

I did say it is easy to test them.

 

Just warning OP that it's a thing. To each their own do what you like but you did say

Leads anyone to think that you aren't aware of condensation building in tanks, like the OP was not aware. He said he'd have them checked out, he's on the right path.

Myself it's the rust that the water in the tank can cause clogging valves, lines, and making thin spots. Obviously if I had them in person it'd be a different story.

 

The tanks I have seen fail over the years never saw a violent failure for the most 120 psi Not at all like a High pressure cylinders that fail can be quite exciting..

I will admit I tend to forget things because I was always told I was slow that it is possible not everyone works with Air Systems or builds high pressure boilers . The best one is doing rear brakes I forgot to say remove the rear wheels .

 

I actually left Texas and shipped my Tacoma overseas to Lebanon. I’m here now.
