Maybe if @Lucario Runner comes down with a Toyota dip stick tube, and or pan, we could figure something out, next time he comes down. Whether we need to weld/braze it in, or get the pan to match.

Since it's the 21st century, how about a sensor that monitors fluid level? Too much to hope for(as he wonders what the engine oil pressure is)?

It certainly is possible to do, BMW has been doing it for years on some of their engines (no engine oil dipstick, engine oil is checked through the driver information center) but then again just another electronic device to fail.

If this magical pan is off a 4runner does this mean the dipstick will not hit anything with the way V6 Prerunner is set up ?

In other words one would not have to modify the dipstick to fit under the bonnet?

Quoting my post, for a picture reference. The 2003-2004 1GR is externally the same as the 2005-2011 Tacoma. The OEM headers were most likely the log style, which also came on the 2005-2008 Tacomas. Later changed to a more laminar flow oriented "log" style.

The V8 also fit in the same chassis as the V6. Those points combined, should mean that with a factory set of headers, the dipatick tube should fit.

We have Mall Crawling, Rock Crawling, Expo Adventuring, Dune Jumping, PreRunning, Desert Racing, and Road Course Racing Tacomas. All having started as the same platform. Think how broad a spectrum, and how vast the modding has gone for all of those supplemental and complementary wants/needs. This should be one of the easier mods.

Can you do this on mine too? Maybe we can wire some sort of electronic reader so that a light just turns on and lets me know if its low?

Can do. Except instead of a light it's going to be a giant rainbow HUD that fills up your entire windshield every time it detects that you are more than one ounce over or under.

Adding to this, for future reference:

90341-10011 drain plug (#2 in pic)
    35178-30010 drain plug washer/gasket (#3 in pic)
    35168-60010 pan gasket (not pictured)
    35330-60050 A750E/F filter (#4 in pic)

Checked with McGeorge Toyota; everything is still available, except the dipstick tube assembly (#5 in the picture). It's officially listed as "discontinued" on their site. That being said, I bet any number of Toyota wrecking yards around the country would have it.

    Keep us posted.
My only concern would be if the tube will come out in a “convenient” place. And if you’ll need to tweak it to make it “fit”.

Thanks for being our “guinea pig” and testing it for us.

Also interested to see if the pan is deeper or shallower? Or the same?

I may look up service data on drain and fill and see…..

I will get back to you on that one.

Thanks, I didn't even consider if they were different capacities. I will definitely get some pictures once I have it and can take the old pan off the 4Runner to compare.

We are going to have to call on @Dm93 for the 03’ Lexus 470 numbers.
Because Chilton says 4.2 quarts. And that sound more like 06 4Runner capacity with valve body removal.

Here what I show. I don’t trust the numbers. That’s a big difference between drain and fill for each.

    Ok……my fault.
It clearly says “pts” in the image. (Pints)
    I’m a dumbass.

There are 2 pints in a quart.
So that’s 2.2 quarts for the Lx

So the Lx holds a bit more?
    More is better……???

    Bolt it up…..

Thanks! More capacity is good with me, I will be adding a big Hayden 698 cooler at the same time. I think i may go through the factory fill procedure/check the first time to make sure it’s correct, and then see if that matches the dipstick. I dont work on many autos so this will be bit of a learning experience
