So far, no deer yet with the 2nd gen aluminum bumper. I have to say it feels really burley. Only time will tell if I destroy the whole bumper every time I hit a deer.

Does anyone know if the 3rd gen Cbi with the single rear swing will work on a 2nd gen? I have a friend that is wanting to upgrade to the T3 high clearance one. Seeing if anyone knew if it would fit or not.

CBI push bar installed on ‘20 TRD Sport... great product. Only complaint so far is that after a couple months of rain, the corners where welds meet are starting to show rust. Attention to detail, even on powder coating is important.

update… the factory TRD Pro skid plate is NOT compatible with this bumper. I was told by CBI it would fit fine… well it will, after some trimming.

Any one have taken out swing arms so drive with tail gate down? For lumber hauls? Is it not recommended to take off? I wonder why

Love the CBI skids. Using them with my factory TRD Pro Skid. Fitment was perfect.
Now I just need to find a good deal on the raw aluminum Gas Tank skid ;)

I’ve heard that some people have issues with the baja front bumper causing TSS sensor issues. Does anyone have any comments on this?

I just installed the Baja bumper on my Tacoma with the TSS pro sensor... I have not had any issues... I have however had this issue where it feels like the bumper is squeezing the grille at the front.

Wow, that is crazy tight… is it literally pushing in on the grill? And how’s the hoop, looks like it’s right in front of TSS??

No issues with the TSS sensor with an OR grill

It is touching the grill like the outer edges but on the inner right below the toyota its fine. Here is a front pic of the Baja Grill with Mid hoop for TSS users --

EDIT: Disregard the fogs, they are coming out this week lol. Also, from the looks of it, it could be that the Toyota Pro Grill I have is a little bit thicker in the front and black edges vs the OR grill above.

What bumper style do you think would provide more protection for a deer strike?
The mid-level hoop or the full hoops over the headlights?

seems like there is a big space around the grille for the full hoop version, deer could fit right through imo. Just want the most deer protection

I went with the Baja for just the reason you mentioned, better coverage of the radiator. I drove an hour to work just before daylight and unfortunately hit 4 deer over about 10 years. After the first strike used the insurance money to install an ARB on my 1st Gen and it did well on the other 3 with one minor exception (the last was at approx 65 mph and the deers hip mad it through the hoop over the drivers headlight, broke the light mount and slightly bent in the leading edge of the fender). All 4 strikes were at headlight/mid grill heights…the reason I chose the Baja vs the full hoops. Keep in mind these were whitetail deer, if I drove in an area with larger bodied animals may have went with something more substantial. Almost went with another ARB, but am trying to keep weight down on my 3d Gen build so the aluminum Baja seemed to fit; time will tell.

I wouldn’t think what’s listed on the website is aluminum as it weighs 80 lbs

Hey man, thanks for the detailed reply. Awesome first gen there. I just moved from elk country (where only the arb would stand a chance of getting you home after a strike) to deer country. Do you think the aluminum would hold up to a deer?

Thanks, I do think it will keep a deer out of the rig’s vitals, but it was a give and take for me; I’m willing to risk the exposed fenders to save weight and feel good that there is enough over the radiator to keep me mobile in back country deer strike. Weight was a battle with my first build and am really working to keep it down on this one. I’m a big fan of the protection of the 3d Gen ARB, but the weight led me to the Baja. Not avoiding a direct answer, just wanted to share the “why” with my selection.
