I didn’t think there was room for the 21”. I was planning a 16”, but now I’m going to have to rethink this and look at the 21” once I pick up my SP. My neighbor just had a 21” installed with his GFC.

Keep an eye on the rack. How far from the bottom to the rack? Good chance it’s going to hit it on bumps. That front part moves up and down a lot

 

Yep. And the one designed a 2nd gen DCSB with a Vagabond is too close on a 2nd gen DCSB as well. Clearance is ok on a 3rd gen from what I saw in person.

 

Thanks for the heads up! There was about an inch of the rack under the camper with about 1/2” clearance. I moved it forward now so that the rack doesn’t sit under the camper at all. Should be good now?

 

Nice should be okay ok 3rd gen. On 2nd since the front doesn’t have a solid hold from keeping the X1 from moving forward it would be an issue. Mine moved forward and down. worst case just shave off a bit at the end. Looks good.

 

Def better not being under neath. You need a good 1.25-1.5” of clearance under the X1. As long as you don’t have forward movement that looks good

Nothing exciting, but did some housekeeping recently.


When I did the build I put strips of 1/2 inch R-Tech foam between the bed channels with a a layer of reflectix below the bed mat. Seemed like a good idea but this stuff was preventing airflow underneath and blocking water from draining away. I found water under the R-tech and condensation on the underside of the reflectix.

I removed all of that stuff and gave the inside of the camper and bed a good cleaning. There was some dust but not bad after 10 months. Sealed a few more spots where water or dust was getting in.

Thinking about it more, floor insulation wasn't doing anything because the upper tent is not insulated anyways, and when I'm awake at least one side door is usually open. I did like the extra padding under the bed mat though, easier on bare feet. So I got a pack of cheap floor tiles and put them under the bed mat. The bed channels stay clear, hopefully that will prevent future moisture buildup.




Made some other changes to how I organize gear. The goal is to be able to access all frequently used items without having to move anything else to get to them.

The new moto carrier won't let me open the rear hatch or tailgate without unloading the moto, so I moved my blue jug next to the portable shower setup in my cabinet and added an identical electric pump so I can get water with a flick of a switch. I'll fill a one gallon jug from it for frequent use, but will have easy access to more when cooking.




Not having my mountain bike inside the bed all the time will let me keep more gear back there, so the back seat will be less cluttered. For small items I got a couple more of these pouches. I punch a hole in them and bolt them to the bed-side rivnuts. Super useful.

So being my stubborn self, since I bought the hinges to use with the 8020 i ended up chiseling out an indentation so the hinge would work and sit flat. Adding the carpet covering helps keep it flush. Then magnets to keep closed.

Since I used 1/2 ply I drilled the screws beyond the ply and then cut them off since the carpet covers. Using these hinges took me more time but since I bought them might as well use them. Just wasted labor monies haha.

I used the setup from this vid. He has links to all the other components in the description. There is a more expensive german made pump if you prefer. If I have problems with the cheap one I'll upgrade, but so far so good.

Nice! so far it seems to be more 2nd gens with loose mounts (mostly) due to being much lower shorter than the 3rd gens. They did tell me recently again they are working in improved mounts so we will see.

My biggest worry though is the lack of the lip in the front for the 2nd gen to prevent it from moving forward. No issues on 3rd gens from what I have seen.
