I have spent my entire adult life refining my two workshops and collecting quality tools. Most of my tools, get used on a very regular basis. But some of those tools are pretty specific and thus rarely get used. But when I desperately need them, they are there and allow me to get the job done! I view the 4WD capability in my truck no differently; it is a tool and is there when / if I ever need it.

Worth the extra coin over a 2WD truck? It is to me!

Haven't read this thread, but the thought occurred to me that folks got by for generations without 4WD. Like nemo2020 said, many people don't use 4x4 where it is required. I think most buy for the status.

There's a big difference where i live of resale value and time it takes to sell between a 4WD and a 2WD Taco.

At the end of day, it is your money, get whatever truck suit YOUR need.
Sure, you can add sand bags, and use snow tires, but turn a dial when I need 4x4, is much easier.

Today on Toyota website if you order 4x2 vs 4x4 Tacoma with same everything else, the MSRP is about $3K.
Used car market maybe higher for 4x4, so another reason to get 4x4.

If you say you don't need 4x4, then regret not having it, then you really do need 4x4 then.

I will say an experienced driver in a properly set up 2x can likely get though some spots a rookie 4x driver will get stuck in. Finesse can be as important as power.
A guy once said to me "You don't need a 4x in Florida". My reply..."You don't need a 4x if you stay on the pavement in most any state." Snow of course being one exception and another as mentioned, slimey boat ramps.

Thanks good if you’re a seller, maybe not so good if you’re a buyer.

Now do an SR vs. a 4x4. The difference will be approaching $10K.
