    Hi folks,

This is my first forum post. I just bought my son a used Tacoma and it has some off-road modifications. I have never owned a lifted truck, but am not new to Toyotas. I’m on my 3rd Tundra and my wife drives a 4Runner.

We just moved back from overseas where my oldest son was unable to do all the drivers license stuff that his current classmates have completed. Therefore he must wait until next month when he turns 18 to get his DL. So since he has moved twice during his high school career, we decided to buy him a unique vehicle—this lifted 2012 Tacoma.

We are living in Northern VA, and my son will be attending Texas A&M University in the Fall. I want to have it ready to go before we send him off, and the first thing I have to do is gather all the correct info. I’m trying to figure out some stuff with the truck since I know absolutely nothing about lift kits, though I do have tools and am capable of some repairs. Our course, it’s been a long time since I repaired anything but brakes—that’s why we drive Toyotas.

Can anyone help me identify the following, as listed in the pics below:

    1. The lift that is installed appears to completely replace the original crossmember. Can anyone help identify it? Height?

    2. What kind of wheel locks are these? Need to order one for my son to carry with his tire change kit…

    3. Any recommendations for a jack to carry in the truck?

    Thanks for the advice!

    JG

Welcome! I think I was able to find the specs for you

Lift: Pro Comp 6" Lift - Its probably this kit (approximately 5-6 inches of lift)
Wheels: XD825 BUCK 25 20x10 (Hard to tell whether or not it has wheel spacers or a lot of negative offset)
    Tires: Nitto Ridge Grappler 295/60R20

It doesn't look like it has wheel locks. A 14mm socket should get the lugs out

Thanks, man! I believe the offset is -24. I'm probably going to change the tires for A/T 285 width before he leaves for college. The tire whine is pretty loud with those M/Ts and we have to drive it cross-country to get to College Station, TX...

I probably should get my head examined for getting a vehicle like this for a teenager, but he's also a big boy... 6'6" 220lbs with a 6'7" wingspan. He gets right in it no problem whereas I have to use the handle and climb!

Nice looking Tacoma, I always liked that shade of blue, anyone know what they called it? Also the Nitto tires are great, if you ever go to replace them you can save about $600 over Les Schwab if you get them from Discount Tire or Walmart, Discount Tire being the better option of the two for quality of service

Nautical Blue Metallic. I also really like that color. The 4Runner and some other toyota models still use it.

It says “TX Pro / TRD”. I’ve seen it before but not very often. I heard that model included Fox shocks but I assume all that has been changed with the lift. 4WD options include A-TRAC, locking diff and hill descent.

Those are definitely spline drive Gorilla style lug nuts, you will need the spline drive socket.

Hopefully they're extended seat as well.
