Riverhead Toyota making good on those frame recalls

Today we traded my wife’s 2012 FJ in for a 2022 4Runner

my jaw dropped seeing the stacks of frames for replacement

after going to every Toyota dealer on Long Island determined not to settle for a mark up we got msrp along with 21k for the FJ trade. Don’t pay a mark up, if you do the work someone will write the sale.

There is no 3rd Gen frame "recall" as of yet.

Yea they said it was all for tundras and tacomas. The explanation was “the acid bath the frames go in was chemically compromised, that’s why they all rot out” I read somewhere tho that Toyota, at least in rust belt state provides a 12 year/unlimited miles anti corrosion warranty on 3rd gen’s. I’m not certain the source but if I can find it again and verify it I will cite.

 

Hard to believe Toyota has learned nothing since they bought my 1st Gen ( 2000) back in January 2009 for frame rot.

 

21k for the FJ? Always wanted one and saw 2 at the frikin' dealer here. I think they were both 2013's, were clean, but had pretty substantial mileage as I recall. They were priced at $35k plus/minus a teensy bit. I decided NO WAY did I want one THAT bad and bought new from another dealer.

Yes. I received that notification not long after I purchased my truck. I had to bring it in for an inspection/service type thing of the frame, they added plastic plugs to it. The service writer said that having that done was necessary to qualify for the warranty coverage on the frame, should I ever need it. Can't imagine what good they honestly think plastic plugs will do?

I kept the card too. 12 years/Unlimited mileage coverage against perforation. You can be denied coverage if you applied a coating to the frame and they determine it caused/increased the corrosion.

 

Yup the K0D plug kit. Mine had it done before I became the owner, I’m still gonna fluid film in the spring.

Sunrise toyota just sprayed my frame instead. Wish they actually replaced it

 

I considered using a rust preventative of she kind but honestly with the extended coverage I decided against it. I figure if it rusted through in the first 12 years I'll take the frame replacement. If it rusted through after I'll buy a new truck, probably going to want one by then anyway.

 

So it took them until 2018 to get the frame right?

So the just concealed the damage essentially. You should start poking around with a screwdriver and see if you find any soft spots, if you do get that frame. They’re fucking horrible btw, Eric the sales guy can eat a bag of dicks. He told me today you’ll never get msrp, today he was wrong.
