I have a 2019 I had a KD MAX tune put on a few months ago and it randomly throws the check engine light. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

What code are you getting when you pull them? Are you sure it’s the tune causing the CEL?

I had a customer tell me up and down that tuning caused his truck to throw check engine lights, this that and the other… right after a fill up…

The dude forgot to tighten his gas cap.

Not all codes are related to the tune, had another guy have a Brake Pedal Malfunction and check engine lights… that guy installed Tacomabeast Tail lights, they short circuited in the rain, blew a fuse and caused some other issues…

Do yourself a favor and get a CEL reader and post what codes you have so it can help you diagnose your problem.

Very interesting that your first post on this website is a complaint about a tune... that you went out of your way to create this new thread when there's a whole KDMax thread you could have asked your question.

why would I lie? And the check engine light comes off and on so it’s unpredictable when it will happen. But didn’t start until I got the tune. I’m not here to bash on the tune or the guy that did it, I was just looking for answers and to see if anyone has had this issue. And I had a account years ago but couldn’t remember my email or anything so that’s why it’s a new account, dick.

haven’t checked yet. Lights go on and off and it’s never on when I’m close to somewhere to check it.

Should still be able to see a stored code with a decent reader

this...autozone should be able to pull stored codes for free, or I would recommend picking up a code reader for your own use. it never hurts to be able to diagnose a problem when it is happening. I have a bluetooth OBD adapter in my truck that I use to track trans temps while towing, and an added bonus is I can use to pull codes at any time.

Definitely recommend buying a code reader. They come in handy. Codes are also always stored, even if it’s currently not on. Finally, if it’s still under warranty the dealership can check it for free.

I have no knowledge of the situation here nor any skin in the tuning game, but as a "customer" of the original purveyor since 2017 I can tell you this isn't a good look. We all saw the back and forth and what that led to. Maybe PM the guy and sort this out?

Any recommendations on a code reader? A quick search on Amazon yields too many to sift through. Some are around $15 but you could easily spend over $200. Is there a decent mid-priced model that is reliable? I wouldn't even know what features to look for.

I ordered the BlueDriver unit from Amazon, downloaded the free app to run it.

Also, picked up the Torque unit from Amazon and downloaded the Torque Pro ($$) app.

The Blue driver reads more things than the Torque does, but the Torque has a better user interface regarding guages and live data (IMO).

I carry both readers in a small plastic box in my glove box along with an OBD2 port extention cable. This makes it easier to tuck the OBD2 reader out of the way while driving.

The apps are on my phone and tablet always on the ready.

If you speak well of a tune, fine for all to see. If you speak ill of a tune, do it privately. It's too divisive to say out loud.

It's fine to speak freely about any tune, provided you've actually tried to do some research and not blame the tune for your problem before looking into the root cause.

The argument that "I got a tune, and then at some point later I got a CEL, must be the tune" is the problem. Pull the codes and figure it out instead of blaming the tune with no evidence

Tunes are not my thing and I would never get one, but saying the tune is responsible for your CEL publicly without even knowing the code it's throwing isn't fair to the vendor. It could be something totally unrelated.

No, as a customer you can say whatever you want. Now, personally I'd try and have something to back up my claims (such as codes) and reach out to the "tuner" before making a public statement that might make me look foolish.
But, as the seller/tuner I'd try and help someone out before getting snippy in public.
    That was my point.
