What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Did my starter today, took one hour to get it out and the new one in with 5 speed.
Everything was done from the bottom,
Starter drops out the bottom with no problems with Doug Thorley headers, plenty of room except the top bolt had to use a wrench on 1/4” turn at a time.
Socket will not fit because the exhaust has an 1” space there

 

Manual is super easy.

Automatic adds some difficulty, but mainly in the unwrenching part, but still easy to knock out by yourself.

Can't bring it out the bottom though, it has to go through the wheel well.

 

Got the transfer case finished, for now untill we get the new VSS adapter. Just wont have a speedo for a few days. Test drove it, was definately the source of the squeak.

Only put the IFS skid back on. While I have the transfer case skid off, we decided to make some upgrades.




Still have to finish a couple runs of weld, but this should be a lot stronger than it was to begin with.

 

Got the primer done finally...

 

Is this brush on or spray? Looks very nice

 

Brush, I used a 4" foam roller for 90% of it and a little brush for nooks and crannies

 

Are these puppies even going to fit in the cab?

The manual is way easier. Well, they aren't "hard" at all. The auto just has more shit in the way.

Something to consider if the rear ones do not fit. I am actually running those rear ones on my rear as well.

Just be smart about carrying it and charging it, Li-Ion batteries are scary in thermal runaway and these cheap Chinese batteries with poor cell management can sometimes let them get too empty, and unfortunately sometimes they short internally too. Poor guy on IH8MUD lost a really nice 100 series land cruiser to one that was just chilling in its case under the seat on a summer day. Hard to stop a lithium battery runaway, salt water stops the chemical reaction, but you won't always be near the ocean.

LiPo carry bags also work great as insurance for if you do wanna carry high output batteries like that in the cab

check engine came n reading code P0304, had a bad misfire. It was time for new plugs and wires. Went with twin head plugs and import direct spark plug wire set for replacement. I went ahead and replaced fuel filter. I am at 1896k and bought the truck at 179k. So far replaced worn suspension parts and went ahead and went with Bilstein 4600 since its just RWD. Recently replaced radiator that was seeeeping coolant from the seams. I would like to do a power steering flush and a transmission flush since i have no idea when its been done last. Levels on fluids have been holding steady since I've had it but definably showing the miles in color of the fluids. Any recommendation on good LED headlights? I replaced old broken headlights with cheap new replacements and the beam patter is clear just not smooth at all.
