So I’ve been doing some reading & research on here & so far I have haven’t had any lucky finding a harness to use to keep my factory head unit and add a 5 channel amp.

I did the $250 speakers upgrade adding kicker tweeters & door speakers and I’m waiting for a 10inch Rockford fosgate shallow sub to come in.

I’m looking to install a 5 channel amp to power everything. I don’t need crazy power, I’m thinking between 600-1000 watts for everything. Also with dsp so i can make it nice and clear. I have some experience with wiring things like fog lights, LED’s, back up cameras and general stuff but I don’t feel comfortable building a harness without really knowing what to do. Has anyone found a plug & play harness for a 2022 head unit or should I just take it to a local shop and have them build me one. Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to TW.:hattip:

I'd suggest going to a junkyard and seeing if there are any 3rd gens. If so, remove the radio and cut the harnesses. I say plural because my '06 has 2 plugs for the speakers.

Nice and clear..... Costs $$, as @dolbytone mentioned in another thread using the stock head unit. That money would be better invested in a new head unit imo.

A new head unit will be free of the built in equalization, and give you one to work with, more than likely. You also get RCA outputs which is a much cleaner signal going to the amps.

I replaced the 6 disc changer in my '06 with a single din Kenwood excelon. Radio and everything to install it, with the steering wheel adapter cost about 350. I have a friend who installs and got somewhat of a break, not a whole lot. So, ymmv on cost. And, I installed it myself. You can spend big bucks on a head unit, so it'll be good idea to list out the things you need, vs the things you want, it you decide to go this route.

I knew swapping the radio was going to be an improvement, but oooooomfg; I couldn't believe what these crappy stock speakers sound like. Channel separation, a wee bit of thump l, lol. Huge huge improvement.

It's only gonna get better from here.

    Good luck.

This is the comment referenced. That said, I used an AX-DSP-TY3 harness to add all of the aftermarket stuff in my 2020 4Runner because I’m not convinced I was going to retain all functionality with an aftermarket. Your 2019 probably does not use this same harness, you have to verify which version applies to your specific radio.

This is the thread I’m using for that project:
