35E4C1A5-C429-48F3-BD55-B58C20870A6A.jpg I just noticed that the dash trim is poorly fit on the passenger side. Can others tell me if this is typical? I’m wondering if this is going to get worse over time if not fixed…

Mine is fine. Doesn't seem typical

Maybe the clip closest to the end just isn't seated quite right? I'd try giving it a few whacks.

    That’s been tweaked.
Heat it and reshape with a panel tool or nylon putty knife. You’ll get it 95% neat.

What year is this? If out of warranty I would just get some gorilla glue double sided tape (insanely sticky) and get it in there too hold it. This would drive me insane having to see that. Btw, if you go this route don't forget to use an rubbing alcohol wipe to clean the area so you never have to worry about it losing hold of the panel

It's 2022. Two months old. Seeing the replies, I plan to take it in to the dealer.

Yup, dealer time, no need to mess with it if it is under warranty.

That's annoying. I saw recently that Toyota is getting some flack for the 22's qc. Hopefully you have a good local dealership that'll make these warranty jobs easy

    Oh look, another mod....
Hmm, looks like you got what we call a "Friday" truck. The boys on the assembly line just threw your truck together at the last minute and cut corners so they could finish up for the day and get the hell outta there.

Good issue for your dealer “normal” test.

Just dropped off the truck. I got the “I’m not sure we can fix this. We may need to take pictures of this versus a different truck and send to Toyota”. We’ll see what they say when they call me.

They told me this is the way all the Tacomas look. I picked a random truck, and sure enough, it looked just like mine. No luck. Tacoma quality just sucks, I guess.

    Yeah
That’s not normal. Go to a different dealer that got a different lot of trucks on their last shipment and show that dealer their trucks on their lot don’t look like yours.

That's not typical. Should be an easy fix for the dealer.

My 2022 TRD Sport doesn’t look like that. Maybe the gap is bigger in that corner than the rest of the panel but nowhere near as pronounced as yours. Mine has a different interior material but that shouldn’t affect fitment.

I agree with above posters that it looks like yours isn’t attached properly. I assume there are plastic clips that pop together and it looks like the one closest to the end might not be in correctly.

Ok, took the truck in to a second dealer. This time, they submitted photos to Toyota, who said that it's normal for that trim level (SR5). The dealer took photos of two other SR5s, and they look the same. The discrepancies exist between trim levels that have "leather" trim on the dash (SR5) and those that don't (guessing TRD, etc). Crappy quality is the norm on some of this, I'm afraid.

This would drive me crazy. Go get some heavy duty glue or tape and a wooden stick of some kind to jam it together in order to get a good bind.

I've thought about glue, but my concern is that the glue will bind to the leather, which will then just pull away from the piece it's currently adhered to.

Good point. I wonder if you could heat up the plastic with a heat gun and mold it to sit more flush
