So this tacoma is my first truck, and I've only ever owned AWD vehicles. 2WD stinks. I am very grateful for on demand 4wd when doing things such as: Parking in a space that isnt plowed, backing out of my driveway, pulling up a minor grade on unplowed roads. 2wd just spins. new tires, btw

However, I am used to just letting the subaru/BMW do its thing with good tires so this is new to me. It simultaneously a little annoying but also, awesome since the truck always has this super mode that will pull me out of alot of sticky situations.

I had a subaru to and then a Jeep SUV that had the transfer case you could run in 4wd even on dry roads like all wheel drive if you wanted. The Jeep spun in 2wd like that too but not quite like the truck. this is my first pick up too. Last winter I put 2 or 3 40 pound kitty litters from BJ's wholesale in the bed. those helped a little in 2wd. best part is you can use it for a little traction if you get stuck or use later in spring if you have a cat. that or get a sand bag.

The ingenious part of the kitty litter is that you can get it in a resealable box/bag. Great idea.

I feel like I'm one of the people in the minority who actually run true snow tires instead of all seasons. My driveway is a sheet of ice and I drive on it in 2wd all the time.

All seasons just don't cut it when it's nasty out.

It's true. I don't know anyone around here that switches to snow tires around here any more (including me). We just haven't had significant snow that's stuck around long enough to warrant the expense or having to store them somewhere for the rest of the year.

guilty as charged. I mean I run A/T tires with like 16/32 tread depth but theyre an LT tire, so the compound is hard and not soft like youd want for snow traction.

You guys haven't experienced trucks bad in the snow yet... I have an old 2WD F-250, the thing will get stuck on a foggy day.

You can't really put into words the feeling of a 6600 pound truck (empty) sinking in the mud.
I was at an auction towing a drive on trailer, the parking was in a field and suddenly down I went. :censored: So happened the dude pulling in behind me had one of the older giant Hummers, he easily pulled me out trailer included. :fistbump:

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
I think your experience driving on Ice and Snow also factors into the equation .

I run mud and Snow tires and seldom use 4 wd unless for fun or bumper deep snow.

You know it’s cold when the condensation from your own body heat builds up enough to freeze icicles on your hard hat, a thin sheet of ice on your safety glasses and face mask from the condensation in your breath.

    I don’t think I thawed out until 2:30pm.

Good morning. We have about an inch or so here, nothing much. The grandson was due to have a 1/2 day of school. Apparently the roads are slick so the school district put the schools on a 2 hour delay, but then cancelled the 1/2 day. I am not sure how the grandson will feel about this. His day went from about 3 /12 hours to about 5 hours, but, he gets to sleep in 2 hours. A fair trade off? I think so.
