I'm having the same static issue as MiTacoTRD. iPhone13 Pro, Pioneer WC6600NEX, wireless carplay. I have tried two 2.5 to 3.5 adapters.

I've given up and minimized talking via carplay. I'm just happy to get rid of the Pioneer mic. Plus, the speech to text seem to work well. I also read before this is an Apple carplay issue.

The common denominator with people having issues with static/noise seems to be those running Pioneer head units with CarPlay. At this point, I think one or both of the following are the cause of the issue...

It's likely the Pioneer head units are designed specifically to use the included dynamic microphone, which probably has a much lower dB level signal than the mic signal coming from the OEM overhead mic/telephony module. I'm assuming there's a preamp within the head unit to amplify this low-level mic signal to make it usable. My guess is the mic signal coming from the OEM overhead mic/telephony module is too hot, leaving little headroom, resulting in the head unit's internal preamp distorting the mic signal.

The other possibility is there's an issue with the way CarPlay has been implemented within the Pioneer head units as the noise issues seem primarily related to call quality.

The concept behind the adapter is simple - Supply the same power to the OEM mic/telephony module the OEM head unit was supplying, snag the mic signal coming from said module and route it into a mono output jack so it can be piped into an aftermarket head unit. There's no sorcery to it as the mic signal is completely untouched. Unfortunately, there are just too many variables and too many head units on the market to account for so what happens to the mic signal once it gets piped into an aftermarket head unit is out of the adapter's (and my) control.

I wish I had better advice or a solution to offer you, but at this point, I'm out of ideas. If you'd like to send the adapter back, I'll be happy to issue you a refund.

    Piling on to ask also.

Shit man, I'll buy 5 if it means numbers'll be high enough to warrant production...

I have a 21 TRD Sport with Gracenote/Entune. I drive a lot for business. Customers and family complain of background noise. They come through loud and clear. Had an XS iPhone and upgraded to a 12 Pro. All updates are done on truck and phone. Still same issue. I appreciate this forum. Great resource. I’m coming up on my 15000 mile service and wondered if there is any specific thing I should ask them to address outside of explaining the issue? Seems I may not be the only one after browsing the comments.
Have to get used to the site, so I apologize if I have commented out of order or missed something. Thanks for any direction!

Just so you realize, this thread is for people that have an aftermarket radio, and that have bought an adapter to use the OEM mic with the radio. For your issue I would ask Toyota. It’s probably that it’s not insulated where the mic is. That’s why you’re getting background noise. Also check the settings on your phone for carplay make sure it’s using the trucks mic not your phones also

make sure those are selected. For the one go to Bluetooth select radio, change device type to handset.

the other one is under accessibility change call routing from auto to bluetooth headset

Great guidance. I’ll try the settings. I’ll make sure I’m asking or commenting on the correct thread next time. Learning how to navigate and search this site.

Don't sweat it too much. For the most part, people around here are pretty friendly and will point you in the right direction without much jeering.

I’ve read that the culprit here is Apple CarPlay (or certain iPhone models) even with other car manufacturers…I think this could be true because my GF is using Android Auto with her 2022 4Runner and doesn’t have this issue.

I'm finally coming back to this after not being able to test this for awhile. I have a spare SIM in the head unit that cannot accept calls, just sends them to voicemail. I used this to test the call quality and finally hear things for myself and while making adjustments.

So, unfortunately, the results were disappointing. With just the Joying face mic, the call quality was pretty bad. It's no wonder that Siri can barely understand what I'm trying to text. After I made sure everything was reseated, no pins were bent, etc, I tested with the Tombit adapter. The results were marginally worse. I looked through all the settings to see if I could software disable the face mic, in case it was picking up both. No joy.

My next troubleshooting steps are to try with wired CarPlay (I don't even know if the HU supports it), wired and wireless Android Auto. Then I'm going to pull the radio again, double check the fuse/power situation. It's hard for me to conclude that the adapter is bad, just by how bad the stock mic is and how similar the results are. Perhaps I have something wrong internally, or there is some sort of other issue. If you have testing methods for the adapter for me to look at, let me know.

EDIT: Using wired Android Auto the call quality is fine. This seems to be a CarPlay or CarPlay/Zlink issue.

I'll sell you mine if you want. It doesn't work well with a Pioneer head unit which is what I have in the taco. I have the model with the regular blade fuse although I did also buy an adapter to make it work with the compact fuse. PM me if you are interested.

I started a conversation(pm), I didn't want to go thru the hassle of installing the Kenwood mic, I'd give this a try
