Agree with most of the people. TAKE PICTURES. Get it in writing that they will fix it and make sure it’s not going to be reported as an accident.(I don’t think it will be but… why explain that when you sell) I’d take it after the repair. As said above what’s another week.

It all depends on if the dealer is reputable. I'm in the boat business and I wish more people would just take the damn thing instead of leaving it for months when it just needs something small and cosmetic. It causes a backup on our side cause the boat is now taking up space(that we are short on) and with parts the way they are right now, there may not be a firm date of when the repair part is available. Take it, use it, get it fixed when they get the part

Oh boy, here we go again! This list should help:

    • Demand a new truck
    • Demand 2 new trucks
    • Demand they fix it in the middle of the night so CarFax will not find out about it
    • Demand free rental even it you don't need it
    • Demand $1,000 per week while they fix it
    • Demand free parts for life
    • Demand free oil changes for life
    • Demand a life time supply of Rice A Roni
    • Demand free extended warranty
    • Demand service manager's first born
    • Sit outside the dealership all day, everyday wearing a sandwich sign saying "This dealer caused minor damage to my new truck"

See, this is why I inspect my new cars before I drive them off the lot. I had a family member with me when I picked up my Tacoma, and they said "Why are you inspecting it? It's a BRAND NEW truck!"

I told them "Even new vehicles have damage and defects. If this truck has one, I won't sign the final paper work or drive it off the lot." I was so adamant about getting exactly what I wanted (and nothing less), I even made sure the dealership removed all of their dealer badging. You know, the "Toyota of ____" magnetic looking sticker they put on the tailgate or bumper. I had them remove that, and the license plate brackets with their logo's.

I told them "I'm not going to let you advertise on my truck for free. Remove the dealership crap from my truck, or give me $1k." - They smiled and removed it right away.

I bought my truck with some damage that occurred the night before. The dealer fixed it. I was happy.

Regarding the front bumper it depends where the damage is. There's not a lot there and it's easy enough to replace. The unpainted part is a no brainer - it's designed to be swapped out. Under the bumper there are the crush cones - easy to replace. Beneath that then parts are metal. Still easy enough to swap before the frame comes to question.
Really the only thing that would make me worry is any frame damage and then any major repainting.

Get it in writing. It shouldn’t be an issue with a reputable dealer .

Say thanks for being up front with you and notifying you the vehicle was damaged. It’s probably the front valance panel. If they replace it on day of pickup I wouldn’t fret.

if it’s not fixed before driving off and if you have to return on your own time I’d ask for a small freebee or a significant amount off on a bed mat, or something along those lines.

My 4runner was damaged by a dealer and I sarcastically threw out a list of “demands” and they gave and installed a trd cold air intake for me on their dime.

doesn’t hurt to ask, but I wouldn’t be asking for the world either.

Stupid advice. All dealers will complete the deal with a "we owe - you owe" form. This would be clearly stated and is a legal binding document. The OP is at zero risk of not getting this fixed. My god, the dealer went as far as to let him know it was damaged. Do you really think they are going to pull a fast one on him?

I get there are dealers that are shady. Not all of them are. Only a small percentage in reality. You have to have some business sense when buying and selling. Getting 'big dick' syndrome is not something that usually goes over well. Considering the current market, it could be detrimental to the OP. If he goes in there and starts making a bunch of demands, they are likely to toss him out on the street and offer up that shiny new truck to the line of people inside willing to work with them.

As long as the expected repair is documented, the OP has little to worry about. As you can see from the other posts here, it isn't uncommon for things to happen. Not taking the "they are out to get me" attitude can go along way to getting what you want.

I agree with @Sungod they will fix it. I would go look at it first though before you drive it away as is or let them hold until its fixed. if its not that noticeable I'd take the truck and bring it back for repair and same if I really needed it now. if you can really see the damaged then maybe I would let them keep it until it was repaired. I would not want to show off my new vehicle to people and have obvious damage seen. Either way pretty safe that they will fix it and this probably happens so often. Like others said if this was a vehicle going in to inventory it would sit in the back of the lot and be fixed like new before customers got to see it but inventory is much tighter these days.

not all dealers will put that in a contract and it’s important OP does. My sister in law purchased a vehicle that had a interior panel damaged and the dealer said they’d fix it verbally. But never did and shadidly brushed her off.

    Work in progress...
Fairly simple actually, just get a promise in writing. Obviously look at it and make sure it's not something you just can't live with knowing what was done to the truck.

A new species of Karen has recently been discovered with the help of Tacomaworld… the dealership Karen. They are most commonly found in North America, particularly in upper middle class suburbs. The key to finding this species is whenever a dealership makes any kind of mistake, these Karens have an insatiable instinct to get overly angry about dents, scratches and other cosmetic flaws in particular, while insisting it is not possible for the vehicle to meet their highest of standards ever again. They have also been known to demand lots of free things, including compensation far above what the cost to repair the actual damage is. This Karen may share several personality characteristics with other species of Karens, but the dealership Karen have only one natural predator, Carfax. Perhaps their greatest worry in life is that Carfax will keep a record of minor cosmetic repairs and all subspecies of future Karens may find out, leading to a Karen showdown.

No, there’s been a bunch of threads lately about the dealership doing cosmetic damage, immediately offering to repair it, and the comments and advise on here are just laughable.
