Thanks again to everyone for their input. I appreciate it.

Having complained about my MPG, there is not a day that I park my truck and not look back at it saying, "damn that is a good looking truck".

I once got 27 mpg highway 6mt. Around town, less than 40 mph and flooring it.. yeah, I'd be in the 11 mpg. Even just driving normal, if its less than about 5 miles, rarely would I break 14 mpg.

I’ve found that screen readout and mpg overall closely matches results of the GasBuddy app. Mine seems right on. I’m getting between 17 and 19 on average around town. Bigger tires and some lift surely affect results. I also have one of those speedo recalibration plugs behind instruments that fixed the speed and odometer mismatch due to tire size upgrades.

    I got 18-20 on my 22, that dropped to 15-17 after 3" and 33's.

I'd be concerned with 11.... you sure the e-brake isn't on:)

Nope...been averaging 18.5 since my DCSB 4x4 OR had 6 miles on the odo. It’s very hilly here, etc. Your truck won’t heal itself. Definitely something isn’t right. If the dealer says “they all do that”...push back. 11.5 mpg is crazy.

City driving will ruin your MPGs. 11.5mpgs also sounds like you are driving extremely short trips very frequently. Make sure you take that truck on the freeway for a couple miles to make sure your warming up properly and get the most life out of your engine oil.

Yep, you nailed it. I was thinking about my own MPGs in the city and looked at them this morning as I was running errands since this thread was fresh in my mind. This is driving around Omaha (suburbs) so we have some decent hills being this close to Council Bluffs.

With ~12k on my DCSB TRD Sport A/T (Decked + Leitner Rack & Pods) I am getting 13.5 city w/ ECT power driving in S4 *** according to the computer ***. I've been driving the last few tanks in ECT and S4 around town to get a feel for how the Taco behaves (trans & water temps) w/ no trailer. I haven't been logging my trips around town with GPS but @H7D F5T may be encouraged that my numbers are not very far off of his. Granted, I have several hundred pounds more in my bed, but my rig has also been through the learning process since I have 12k.

Edit: stock suspension w/ Hellwig 980 helpers and stock Toyo pavement stompers (I forget what their road tire is - Open Country maybe? It isn't the AT or MT tire, it's the grocery getter tire made for pavement). I'm stock for a 4x4 Sport, just heavy in the bed b/c of the drawers + contents and the Leitner rack.

11.5 mpg? something isn't right if this is doing the actual math. Bone stock you should be at least 20 plus on the highway all year. I'll average 22 or better in the summer, and around 19 in winter. Right now i've gotten the worse ever in this cold snap..18.7 mpg. Friggin truck never warms up till i reach my destination on short trips.

I don't know the gas mileage of my Tacoma yet, mostly because I just got it and have yet to do the first fill-up, but...

I keep a spreadsheet that has a sheet for every auto we've owned since 1994, and I record everything there. Every gas fill-up, every service or part... everything. It's not hard to do if you do it as soon as you get home from whatever (fill-up, parts run, etc.). I can tell you fairly quickly what the gas mileage was on every vehicle, and also how it changed over the years.

Not only is it great to have such detailed info, it can be predictive - you can see at a glance when the mileage starts to drop, and any sudden change tells you that something needs attention now, before it becomes a major issue. It also told me things like when to anticipate brake work (new pads, etc) based on my own driving. I can't imaging not having that type of info at my fingertips.

Usually, posts about low gas mileage are met with derision, eye rolls, and comments like, “better part it out” or “better trade it in for a Prius”. Apparently, <12 mpg is the point when comments about mpg are met with concern rather than the standard mockery. .

You have to be towing some heavy chit. My trucks pretty decent at 19 mpg pulling a 2k lb boat...same, or slightly better with a loaded 5x10 utility trailer.

3000lb+. Mostly mountain driving. Not to mention the camper obviously sits higher than the truck so acts like a giant sail lol

I'd check the rear drum and parking brake adjustments.

My tank average right now is sitting at 17.2 with mostly city driving. I can get about 20 on the highway. But my daily 6 mile trip to work always has me around 12.6. I am slightly lifted on a size bigger tire though.

Most of my driving is short trips and I get about 12-13 mpg, but I drive with a heavy foot. Coming from a BMW M3, I’m not use to how slow my truck moves so I’m constantly driving heavy footed. I’m lifted with 33 inch tires too. Looking forward to getting the KDMax Pro tune soon to see if it makes any difference.
