I purchased a new 2021 Tacoma in March 2021. The first few months were problem free, but then I noticed that the radio would cut out momentarily whenever I hit a bump or on a rough road. This problem got worse and now it's constantly cutting out whenever I accelerate, brake, or make sharp turn. The sound cuts out, but the audio display showing the artist and song still works. This happens on SiriusXM, FM, AM, and whenever my phone is connected.
I've made three trips to the dealer to get this fixed, and the last trip several weeks ago, they finally said the "audio head" was defective and they ordered a new one from Toyota, but have no idea how soon they will get this part. In the meantime I'm paying $34/month for SiriusXM that I haven't been able to listen to for over three months.

Has anybody else had this issue? It seems like a loose speaker connection to me, but I'm old-skool and would look there first if I was having the same issue with my '67 Mustang radio.

Anyway, thanks in advance for your suggestions.

More than likely the “audio head” description is right. The radios in these trucks aren’t top-of-the-line, add manufacturing constraints with the pandemic and quality goes down. The problem is likely the amp-chip heat sink has become separated from the chip, possibly breaking a solder joint in the process. That’s why it’s progressively getting worse.

You may not want to wait for the dealer to get a replacement, most are going in new trucks. I’d look at Crutchfield.com and see if there’s a unit there that meets your needs.

    Sorry for the news.
