3rd generation tacoma stereo upgrade vss issues after

Hi every one I'm.new to the forum. I have just installed a new head unit into my 2018 TRD sport. After the Install I went for a drive after about 1 minute I got a check engine light. I hooked up a code reader and got p0500 VSS. What I have found out so far is the the stock navigation unit was hooked into the ecu either sending speed data to the ecu or vice versa. My first option is to sell the head unit and buy a new one that has the work Co.ing from it to compete the circuit. Or can I run the wire to another location to trick it some how any help would be appreciated.

 

Hey Jeff, I am new to this forum also and just bought my first Tacoma 2018 TRD. I’m also considering changing the head unit because the sound system just isn’t very good. What did you decide to do with your new purchased head unit?

When you buy one just make sure you look up it's manual and ensure it has a vehicle speed sensing wire and you will be fine it what I'm going to end up doing is just biy another head unit and put this one in the wife's car. How ever the wore harness you wl need is a maestro rr with the t01 or t02 wire package they rum around 300 bucks but you will keep the back up camera and steering wheel contrs

 

I really appreciate this information. I will print it and go to the local stereo store and make sure all of those points are covered!
