Wire fridge to SPod or to aux battery?

Looking for some input on the wiring I'm going to have done next week and wondering about the advantages and/or disadvantages or wiring a Dometic Fridge to an SPod or directly to the Aux battery. I admittedly don't know about electrical, so I'm having it done by someone who does, but am just trying to get the configuration right before I meet with him to tell him what I want to do.

I have a dual battery setup (NorthStar AGM Group 31s), ARB twin compressor (which I've read needs to stay connected directly to the battery and only switched on/off with the Spod), and I'll be running a Blue Sea power panel to the bed and the ARB twin pin plug to the rear seat delete platform which is where I intend to run the fridge most of the time. I'll have the option to plug it into the bed power panel as well. Should I run both the bed power panel and in cab plug to the SPod?

I have my arb twin wired to the sPod, and fridge to my aux battery through a blue sea with a fuse.

 

So from what I've read on the SPod site it isn't recommended to power the compressor via the Spod:
Q Can I power and control a twin ARB compressor?
A You can NOT power a twin ARB compressor with our system. The compressor will have to get it’s power directly from the battery as their instructions imply. Yes you can control the compressor (eliminate the supplied switch) by using the single Purple wire that would have normally went to their switch and connect it to any of our outputs to use the sPOD system to control it.

So, I think I'm gonna just leave the compressor wired to the aux battery and replace the in-cab switch to using the Spod HD panel.

Still looking for input on advantages or disadvantages of going to the Spod with the fridge. Anyone else?

 

Hmm maybe mine isnt powered, just switched. Ive had my spod for a few years, but when i was wiring it up, i called them and they explained it to me.

Other question, why would you want your fridge switched? If its on, then your stuff is getting cooled. If its off, just unplug it? To me, no sense on having it on an on/off switch. Plus doesn't the fridge itself have a switch?

 

Those are all very logical and good questions. Yes, the fridge has a switch and so does the panel in the bed... it does seem redundant. I would agree. Maybe just for ease of turning it on from the driver's seat? The sPod has 8 switches, I don't see myself adding more than a couple more sources (light bar, etc) I guess I was wondering if there were any disadvantages to having it wired to the sPod other than it being redundant? I'm thinking about going to the sPod just to not have so much shit on my battery terminals. One question I had was the wiring kit from ARB and Dometic have and inline 15A fuse and the sPod has a 30A per input.... So, if I do go to the sPod shouldn't I still keep the inline fuse just before it goes into the sPod? I'm overcomplicating this, that's for sure. I appreciate your responses.

 

That I don't know. I dislike wiring, reasoning why I got an sPod. And true, I also have 8 switches, but not all used (and less than in this picture)

 

Yep, hate it too. Would much rather wrench than fool with electrical, just due my lack of knowledge. Thanks for your replies, man. Was hoping someone would chime in that had a bit more expertise than you and I, but oh well. If I would have posted a "how big of lift do I need to fit x tires" I would have gotten a lot more replies. LOL

 

The arb has to be wired to the battery only because of the power draw. It can be ‘switched’ to the spod. I had mine switched to a Switch-Pros but moved the switch for more lights. The arb switch is basically a sensor wire.
Same thing with your fridge. It should be wired to your battery with the outlet on a switch. But I would forget the fridge switch and keep it wired and on constantly. You have a dual battery and the fridge won’t kill your starter battery.

iceco vl45 has been run via my voswitch for months now. The button stays on 24 7 as the fridge cuts off when it's at temp. I run a single battery with solar as well. No issues here
