Winch Voltages

I just installed a bull bar and I was looking to install a winch. I found a really good deal on a 24V Warn winch from a friend, but odviously my truck is wired for 12V. Is there a good way to get 24V to power the winch? For the money I would save I wouldn't mind putting some cash into modification but I haven't been able to find any good ways to do it. Any suggestions?

 

Thats what I figured. I found some setups on the net that used the existing alternator and battery with an additional 12V battery ran in series to the winch but seemed to me it would end up killing one or both batteries. Adding another alternator and battery seems expensive and laborious.

 

you could see how much it would be to get a 12v motor, im pretty sure depending on your model of warn winch, you could get put a 12v motor/ solenoid. might save you some cash?

 

That is a really good idea, I'll have to check into that.
