if that is the issue its not really something you have to worry about. your truck should still be running fine you are just going to produce more emissions. you'll have that CEL though until you fix it

I’d try running through a few tanks of fuel down to relatively low fuel levels and hope there isn’t too much gas in the canister. Unfortunately most of the time once gas is in there the canister is done and disconnecting it will result in a constant MIL light and the associated reduced functionality (no cruise control, etc).

yeah I don’t have traction control right now. It’s annoying. Why do they even disable that?

It’s fairly standard that most, if not all, auto manufacturers will disable vehicle features when a cel is triggered because it potentially alters the vehicles performance. They also don’t want people to just ignore the problem so they make it more difficult to do so.

Ok so I noticed I’m getting less gas mileage. I think it’s the vapor canister.

Before you start replacing things either take it to someone with Techstream (friend or dealer) or get it yourself. Off the shelf code readers are limited. With Techstream you can get the exact codes and chase the problems down easier. You can follow this thread to get techstream

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ecu-tsb-update.562550/

Also you will need a Tactrix OBD2 reader, that's in the thread as well. Who says you can't work on new cars? I've never had a Holley double pumper tell me what is wrong with it.

Charcoal cannister. I got the same problem. $500 bucks down the crapper to fix it. Although it may come and go depending on the weather. Mine will come when its foggy and cold. When it warms up then every once it a while it will self clear. Stupid charcoal canister tests itself when you are not around and will fail your system before you even fire it up.

I had some posts with some info.

I also had an issue where a previous owner did it and this was the tell tale sign, as well as a constant cut off when refilling. Luckily I was replacing the engine anyways, so the cab came off and I did a ton of other work in the process. Never had the issue again. Some newer vehicles won't even let you, they will instantly overflow. Had a previous Dodge Ram that did that.

The company I work for part time had over 100 f250 6.0s for the site forman and supervisors and after they got burned by all the typical 6.0 issues started replacing them with f150s since the trucks see so much idle time. Needles to say I’ve done dozens of evap canisters over the last 10 years from chronic overfilling. I’ll take them over lifting the cab to pull the heads off the 6.0s though.

How bout them Triton 2/3 valves? lol. That whole era from the 4.6 & 5.7 to the 6.0 & 6.8 was just a disaster. And... apparently in common with Toyota - frame rot. I was an avid FordTechMakULoco follower ;) He broke down in one video in 2020 titled "Sometimes, I question the quality of Ford Motor Vehicles" lol. He loves FORD and all but I agree about the engineering decisions since 2011. It's been bad.

My first service truck was a 6.8 2v that launched 2 plugs a week apart from each other, needless to say I’m not a huge ford fan. I have had decent luck with the 6.2s and hope the 7.3 continues that trend…

My ‘17 threw these codes, unhooked neg battery cable for 1/2 hr, reset and never came back on. I also checked the gas cap while cable was unhooked.

Have you done any type of work or modification to the engine. I'm saying this because I replaced my spark plugs and took the intake off and on the bottom of the plastic intake pipe there was a vacuum hose that I forgot to put back on and I got some of the same codes Hook it back up Cleared the codes and had no further issues . FYI
